When I was going through chemo I had some drunk bimbo in an SF airport bar call me a skinhead. I guess she didn't notice that I was there with my Asian GF.
I was 23, in my first job, and fairly meek.
Wouldn't make the same mistake now.
The people who were clearly the most uncomfortable were people from a generation where you didn't talk about such unpleasantness in person. It took me a long time to understand that was the root of it. I though that if these people had 40 years on me, certainly this wasn't their first rodeo interacting with someone who was visibly ill!

I remember when obituaries didn't mention cancer, but "a long illness," and when there was an idea that cancer was somehow contagious or to be feared in others. I do think that AIDS made cancer look a whole lot better in terms of people's fears of visibly ill people.
I'm sorry that happened to you as a young person. I doubt it would happen now, as least, I hope not.
Since this is P&OC, I can't help but asking, by any chance, are you a Trump supporter?
I can't be the only one who wonders what "maga" means? Was America great when people had less knowledge and weren't overwhelmed by the "Information Age"?
People may have more information now but they don't know how to use it.
And married couples don't sleep in twin beds anymore.
Things have changed a lot, and sometimes the changes are jarring to those of us who grew up in a more repressed time. But you know what? In spite of the excesses we see - it's still better. The truth is that human beings are extremely messy, and always have been. I don't think we do ourselves or anyone else any favors by pretending otherwise.
Actually....there are new homes being built with separate his & hers bedrooms. As a newlywed I would reject that in horror and be unable to understand it.....now, after being married for a long time I can see big advantages (as I believe many long time married couples would also appreciate). No snoring, blanket pulling, coughs, rolling around, etc. by your spouse to wake you or make it impossible to get some sleep.
Plus...when it comes to "marital relations" there's always still the option of sharing a single bed for the night (or....however long it takes ). You could also use the line "your place or mine" in your own home!
So when did your oligarchs get rich enough to have so many bedrooms?
What was your previous troll aka NPC name before you changed to the current one? I like to keep track of the Media Matters trolls, most of whom have multiple identities.
I remember when I was younger (the fifties) and one of my Aunts was going to get an operation. I would ask 'what is she getting an operation for? I would be hushed and told ''Female'', and that was the end of the conversation. Boom, right there! Well, nowadays there is no telling what you will hear, and/or see on TV. When I was a kid, the Sears catalog was the closest thing I ever got to Porno. Am I the only one who is just a little overwhelmed by the ''Information Age?''
But you didn't mention your age at the time. Even today, a child wouldn't be told, "Your aunt has ovarian cancer."
It's certainly true that we are inundated with information. But maybe the real problem is that we're inundated with trivial information - like celebrity spats and lost dog stories.
Of course, now, the real problem is from an unstable, blustering president who constantly inundates us with new vulgarities, new instances of shady behavior, and new bizarre announcements.

Oh sure. Actually, I’ve come to think the ideal living situation for a couple is a duplex! Why ruin a perfectly wonderful relationship by arguing over neatness standards or furniture preferences? But still right next door...
But married couples sleeping in twin beds together? How, um, delicate. Besides, nothing makes me feel 8 years old faster than sleeping in a twin bed.

Because too much information is a bad thing? Spoken like a true nanny stater.
As far as the Sears catalog, you just didn't know where to look. That's on you.
