The last thing that Ds should do now is lead on impeachment.

If Trump is to be impeached, the Rs are going to have to bite the bullet and take the lead.

If Trump makes good on his threat to shut down the gov, I think the new House's best move will be to negotiate with the Senate to pass a spending bill they can agree on, and then to override Trump's veto.

It would require some deft moves, but I think it's doable.

It all hinges on Mueller's report. If there's solid evidence there was collusion and conspiracy with Russia, the House will have no choice but to impeach. If Mueller's report only has lesser crimes and is inconclusive on collusion, then impeachment isn't likely; Trump can be indicted for the lesser crimes, put on ice until after he leaves office, then prosecuted.

There will be no impeachment--so the dems need to quit licking their chops.

Shrug. I quit predicting the future long ago. And while there are a few D pols calling for impeachment, I think most of them are not about to follow suit. They're waiting to see what congressional Rs do.

There are plenty of things Congress can do to render a President ineffectual. All it would take is that McConnell start to think that Trump is bad for the GOP - and he may be getting there.

Painter: Things Might Get So Bad the Repubs Will Beg the Dems to Impeach
That's exactly what we Republicans did to Hillary. And it paid off. We destroyed her and she led to Trump's election. I don't think we could have done it without her.
But no one is going to "beg for Trump's impeachment". That's just dope smokin' nonsense.

You will never shake the 38% of his core. He only needs a complicit 12% more. Keep dreaming.

I'm warming up to this idea: don't impeach Trump. Let the rot fester and pile up the indictments. Expose it all: the crooked businesses, the collusion, his tax evasion. Expose not just Trump but all the Repubs who assisted him in his wrongdoing. Force the Repubs to suffer with the rotten leader they have, force them to suffer through a bitter primary where the party self-destructs in an internal battle between the true conservatives vs the Trump base.

And when Trump is gone in Jan 2021, take that stack of indictments and throw the book at Trump. Lock. Him. Up.
I agree with you, Elliott. As much as I want to see that buffoon Trump perp-walked out of the White House, I think his complete destruction of the GOP would be for the greater good.

I’m not sure you are correct. Some people I know who voted for Trump and supported him until recently, now want him impeached. I was very surprised to hear them say that.
