"So, what now? Here's what needs to happen to avoid a partial government shutdown
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to schedule a vote Friday to begin debate on the House-passed CR, which includes the $5 billion for the border wall.
To begin debate, McConnell will need 50 senators to vote to advance the measure. But GOP and Democratic sources are skeptical he will get 50 votes, in part, because of absences as well as frustration about the President’s handling of this episode.
If McConnell does get on the bill, he would need 60 votes to break a Democratic filibuster. That means he would need at least nine Democrats to vote to break the filibuster, which will not happen.
At that point, either the two chambers negotiate a compromise with the White House or the House will have to approve the CR that passed the Senate Wednesday night, which does not have $5 billion for the border wall, and send it to Trump for his signature.
They will of course not blame the demoncrats who are the ones that voted against it-proving that they hate America and our safety (as if we needed further proof)
Trump said he would be “proud to shut down the government for border security.”

This is where Trump needs to shrug and say, "Take it or leave it."
Make the Democrats look unreasonable for refusing to vote for even modest wall funding. And keep the government shut down until those 60 votes materialize. He has the upper hand, he just doesn't realize it.
There is no reason that Democrats should opposed a wall. If Democrats call themselves so called 'progressives' they should be all about limiting illegals coming into our nation.
They aren’t against illegal immigration just the wall as a solution, this should have been done the last two years of it was so important.

Or, this makes Trump look like the unreasonable one. Sure, shut down the government during the holidays, just so he can get his monument, while he parties at one of his resorts on taxpayer dollars

Trump does not have the upper hand. His campaign promise was that Mexico would pay for it not us.
