Fortunately Obama didn't behave like a maniac. How many of his generals had to resign because of his foolishness? Trump is an example of crazy making at its finest.

$5.7 billion is a small price to pay.
Cato says it is 3.3 million or 15.6 billion, depending on some factors. https://www.cato.org/blog/fairs-fisc...fatally-flawed

And this 5.7 billion is only a portion of the cost of The Wall, not the whole thing. Far more efficient ways to combat this problem than this archaic one.

No, it didn't! What was built is only 30 miles of the good wall under Obama. The rest which was not completed was inferior fencing in many places that could be breached. The bill never died. It's still in place just not funded or built according to specs.

But the subject here is about a border wall. Let's stay on topic. And do tell how Obama wasted trillions. I'd like links please.

How about a mine field 1 mile wide? That would be cheaper than a wall..right?

Sure, if your aim is to maim and kill people. Why not just install sharpshooters every 100 yards and pick them off one by one? Would that make you happy?

Or, you know, we could deal with the underlying root cause instead of merely treating the symptoms.

But nah, that makes too much sense. Let's just slaughter them instead.

I'm not saying I support the laws/procedure -- I'm saying the procedure/laws exist. If you don't like those laws that allow for the this procedure -- GET THE LAW CHANGED.

Change the law first.....and then maybe look into building a wall.

Not sure I agree on delaying the wall but I agree on changing those laws. The asylum law worked ok with respect to legitimate asylum seekers. It appears the law never considered the effects when large numbers of people backed by activist groups began using the asylum procedure as an end run around standard immigration law.

It never anticipated that activist judges would render it's detention clause toothless by ruling families could not be separated and kids could not be detained very long thus effectively mandating catch-and-release for any illegal with a kid.

So, if Dems regain control in 2020, they will be leading the charge to implement eVerify, cracking down on overstays, change the asylum laws to prevent abuse, and beefing up Border Patrol with more agents and lots of high-tech cameras and drones and sensors? Right?

I would address the most threatening and costly issue first. Overstays have been vetted and are not desperate and impoverished.
