In mid-December, Harvard’s early-entry candidates began logging on to the application status portal to learn whether they’d been accepted to one of the world’s most prestigious universities. But for one particularly famous member of the class of 2023, entry into Harvard brought a bit more than congratulations.
For David Hogg, it was the last laugh.
“Thank you all for the well wishes,” Hogg tweeted Saturday morning. “I’ll be attending Harvard in the fall with a planned major in Political Science.”
It was so mean-spirited of her to go after a 17-year-old victim of a high school mass shooting. Good for him. He'll become much more admired and accomplished in his life than she ever will.
And a far more qualified Asian-American applicant was rejected.
Hogg said he had a mediocre for Harvard 1270 SAT score. Only football and basketball players are accepted with scores like that.
Yep. This is an example of fame winning out over merit. But, Harvard can do what it will. People like David Hogg are exactly why I shy away from such institutions now (and will be damned if I pay for my children to attend such institutions when it comes to it if things don't change . . . and I attended an Ivy League school for undergraduate studies, so it pains me to write this).
Only football and basketball players are accepted with scores like that.
Since he's not a football or basketball player, then that can't be true, because he's been accepted.
Jared Kushner got in without great scores too. Because his father donated $2.5 million to the school. So there's that way to gain entrance too(without being a football or basketball player).
Diversity. What can you contribute to our school? Not just grades, or book knowledge. Special Talent Admission, such as Athletes, Artists, Musicians. Then there is Life Experience Admissions. What have you done in your life that is special which sets you apart? Hoggs as a Political Science Major, certainly has Life Experience for that major.
LOL he was rejected at multiple CA schools, yet got into Harvard.
And that doesn't tell you something?
It tells you that he got into Harvard because of his accomplishments over the past year. Speaking engagements, political organizing, debate and discussion, leading events and such.
These are very unique skills. Most 17 and 18 year olds don't do the things that Mr Hogg did. Harvard recognized what he brings to the table.

Good for him. Republican or Democrat, we need more young people paying attention to politics and calling us one people out on our crap.
Hogg must be doing something right politically, because he's just a 19 year old kid and millions of conservative adults literally HATE him.
