SNAP should be limited to underweight people and children who fall within the economic guidelines. Even if economically challenged, if a potential recipient is overweight, then they should be denied food stamps.
Why are the bleeding heart liberals so concerned over a child or person feeling daily hunger pangs? It's just the body indicating that ones stomach is empty... but considering how overweight all Americans are, there is obviously no famines going on in the States.
IMO children should be taught that it's okay to feel hungry, and it's okay to not immediately reach for a snack or cry for food. It's also okay to skip a meal. This is a First World country and we are surrounded by food temptations. We shouldn't be feeling anxious when we feel hunger. It's really not a big deal unless one has a medical condition like hypoglycemia.
But seriously, the majority of Americans are overweight, including the children and heading towards a diabetes epidemic.
There was a study a few years ago showing a higher percentage of people on food stamps were obese than even those in the same financial bracket that were not on food stamps.
The overwhelming number of SNAP beneficiaries are children, elderly and disabled.
The number of people and the $ value of their benefits is statistically insignificant. This is more of a political strategy to create a perception of getting tough.
Beyond a temporary setback it is not a burden for most able- bodied people, 18-49, without children, to work or train for work or attend school 20 hours a week. Imagine those with felony convictions face unique challenges.
Maine has the same guidelines as GA but it appears they were going to training for non-existent jobs, I can’t imagine the training that would place this demographic. All for putting able bodied people to work if they are abusing the system.
I have always agreed with this. If you are able bodied, you should work. If there is nothing in the public sector (of course there is!!) then you should work for the state government in some capacity to earn the benefit you are granted. I think Sweden does something similar.

If you work 20 hours a week you can stay on food stamps forever.
If someone isn't on disability they are usually considered able bodied. So, someone who has so many medical problems that employers won't hire him/her while SSA insists they could work is considered able bodied and will be cut off food stamps.
The food banks around here hardly give out any food at all and some of what they do give out is moldy. I have yet to receive bread from it that didn't have mold starting on it. There isn't even a week's worth of food.
You can literally apply for a job every single business in the town you live in but that doesn't mean one of those businesses is going to hire you.
And then they want you to work for free (volunteer) at jobs that used to pay minimum wage. Well, you can't just show up to a place and volunteer. You have to apply for that too. And the volunteer position has to be approved to count. You can't just go to a random place and work for free and have it count. So, there's a limited amount of volunteer positions that even count in the first place. And to weed people out, some of these places make the applicant pay money for the background check (where is someone with no income supposed to come up with money for background checks?) and they note that passing the background check doesn't guarantee you a spot. The local library charges $20, for example. So, the person has no money, no employer views the person as being worth minimum wage (so no paying job), but the person is still expected to shell out money to each volunteer place until one of them deems the person at least valuable enough to work for free. And if the person applies to every single eligible place to volunteer and gets turned down at every one of them, even after passing background checks, then the person is still cut off food stamps and left without the legitimate means to obtain food. They don't make exceptions for those who tried to comply but didn't have the means to do so.
Nice stereotype. You forgot President Reagan's famous "welfare queen": the Cadillac Escalade driving woman who fills her shopping cart with lobster and uses food stamps to pay for it.
Yes because ALL recipients are upstanding citizens and just "down on their luck".
Please. Fraud is rampant. Stop by my local grocery store. It's happening every day. So is welfare as a lifestyle.

These changes are not about weeding out fraud, they just adjust some rules to make fewer people eligible, many of them the most needy because they receive no other benefit.

Our slogan is If you can work, you should work.
You must be an active job hunter and report to your employment service every week to not lose your benefits.
Less people dependent on government = bad news for liberals.
