If Northam is forced out for the racist picture, AND Fairfax is found to have sexually assaulted that woman, AND Herring cannot be elevated because he had posed in blackface around 40 years ago too, will VA Dems rethink their opinion about racist photos? Otherwise, the spot goes to the next in line - a Republican.
Here's my prediction: Democrats, realizing they might lose control of the state, will do one of two things:
1) Let up on pressure for Northam to resign, or
2) Say that Herring's racist photo is "different" because he admitted to it, and let him remain
There is no way that the Democrats would be willing to lose control to a Republican, even if it means they have to backtrack on the indignation over racist photos. Suddenly, racism won't be all that big a deal to them.

All three of them could resign, and Cox still wouldn't get the governorship, as long as they staggered it so that at least one of them stayed in office as Governor (or Acting Governor) to appoint replacements for the others, before resigning himself.
If Herring resigns who replaces him? If the dems get to appoint someone to replace him then that's their way out of this mess. Replace him with someone who is scandal free and he or she can be the back stop that prevents the governorship from going to the republicans regardless of Northam and Fairfax's fates.

Good riddance to the Leftists that embarrassed us in Virginia.

I don't see it that dire if a Republican becomes Governor of Virginia to finish out Northam's term.
I mean, most recently Virginia had a Republican Governor from 2010-2014 and 2 Republican governors, one from 1994-1998 and another from 1998-2002. It's not the end of the world!

Oh, I agree with you. I'm a Republican who would like to see a Republican governor.
The question is whether Democratic leaders in the state would permit it.

Northam would appoint a replacement.
