Individual Hispanics are INDIVIDUAL. Some liberal, most in fact, some conservative. Some liberal about this or that but conservative or traditional about family. 95% of my husband's family are liberal.

I am half Italian, Italian in the US were Democrats more way back and now many are conservative. you see some similar trends here in parts of Texas. San Marcos has a lot of conservative Hispanic Texans.

But it is "all over the place". Cuba and Castro and all that stuff just does not figure in here were I am at. I have met 2 Cubans in 40 years of being in Texas.

Even referring to Hispanics is tricky. On the west coast they use Chicano, here sometimes certain groups use Chicano, but rarely. It is seen as a political term, more 70's. Latino is popular some places but not in my family, they prefer Hispanic.[/quote]

Another interesting thing is here in South Louisiana there are a lot of people who have white Spanish ancestry from Spain because their ancestors were here when Spain controlled Louisiana and much of the Gulf coast. (The current architecture of the French Quarter was actually built by the Spanish who took over the region from the French and then returned it to the French just in time for the Louisiana Purchase.)

So here you would have white people with last names like Jimenez that pronounce it with a "J" sound and Martinez where the accent is in MAR-tinez. Many are also descended from the Canary Islanders who are white Spaniards. I don't know if people count Spain as a white or a Hispanic country but everyone I know of Spanish ancestry sees themselves as white. Some of them have mentioned traveling to other parts of the country and being asked if they have Mexican ancestry and would stress they're "100% white". I guess a white Cuban can be a white Hispanic but most people with Spanish descent are totally 100% white Americans.

Even if most Hispanics are Catholic most don't get too involved with the abortion issue. Most are attracted to the fiscal liberalism of Democrats. I know a lot of Hispanics and most are not interested in politics period (which is kind of a nice quality) and they are notorious for low voter turnout .

In my city on the West Coast (and I realize it's just one city) you never hear the word Chicano. Mexican is used the most followed by Hispanic. I notice that English speaking Mexican-Americans who grew up here like the word Hispanic.

Perhaps a very small number overall of Hispanics are conservative like you, whose families supported the ruthless dictator Batista in Cuba and then had to flee. I've known a few and they had been brainwashed from birth, to be ultra-right. But they constitute no political force and will probably disappear in another generation, as an identifiable group. This one guy of that ilk, gets very angry, when I wish him a happy July 26th, each year. Poor Cuba------out of the frying-pan and into the fire, with the next variety of dictator.

Well they didn’t in the midterms.

Kinda blows a gaping hole in your presumption.

The US Census defines Hispanic as people from Dominica, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South and Central America and other Spanish cultures , regardless of race.

The US Census began counting Hispanic origin population in 1980, on the cusp of the wave of illegal immigration.

Just like I identify as both Asian American and Chinese American. You don't get to define it.
I still say we're never going to come together as a people until we start making "American" our primary designation instead of our secondary one. "American First" so to speak.

Wait. If you say you are "Hispanic", doesn't it offend that part of you when Donald Trump characterizes your people as "Murderers, rapists, drug dealers, and , I assume, some are good people"? Got news for you, it is the Democrats who are fighting to give other Mexicans an opportunity to be a part of this country, it is your "Conservative Right" who want that wall and who think of Mexicans as animals.

I'm glad you have conservative values, but to deny that Democrats care more about you than your own side is ridiculous. If they could, the GOP would have you back on a truck to your homeland. In their eyes, that white part of you doesn't exist.

All "Democrats" is a hasty generalization, as is all "Hispanics," and faulty logic. No points made here.
