You can see the signs but you can't see anything else. How do you know that people are not applying....only to be turned down for some reason?
Really? How difficult is it to be a trucker? 1. Must have pulse 2. Clean driving record 3. Ability to pass your CDL and 4. Be drug free? 5. Be able to work hours away from home?
Come on man, it's not that difficult! If you can't get in with this firm, I'm sure others will pay a competitive wage for the same job.
I'm still a firm believer that if you want something bad enough you'll get it!!! In most cases (not all) there is no excuse for being lazy and reliant on the government to pay your bills.
Case in point. I live in Seattle and every morning while driving in, there is a local trucking company that runs an ad in which they state they'll pay their drivers a salary of 78K a year plus benefits. At the end of each year, they'll pay their drivers a 10K bonus. But yet the ad runs over and over and over again because apparently there are no takers. I don't get it. Yes it's probably a tough job in which you are on the road driving long hours but this is a job that you'd be able to support a family.
Pretty sure other jobs like this exist. Minorities from other countries come to the US and take these types of jobs. Why? Because they are not afraid of rolling up their sleeves to earn a living. America is the land of opportunity if you are willing to be self reliant to get ahead. Sadly, so many in this country aren't. They are quick to put out their hands and are first in line for the entitlements. It's kind of embarrassing if you ask me.
I suspect there is some catch to that trucking job and 78k is top possible salary but most make much less for many hours of work that burns them out. Trucking used to be a freedom independence thing but now they track and time your every move, or so I've heard.
You are a pie in the sky unrealistic thinker if you believe everyone who wants something can get it. Opportunity is quite narrow these days and competition more difficult.

Trucking is going to be automated in 20 years and trucking wages are dropping. Its not a silver bullet.
I've lived in the real world and know this. There are some truly needy people in society, but it's a very small number, maybe 5%. The rest are just lazy or stupid. You wouldn't believe the number of Americans who turn down opportunities for higher paying jobs because "I don't want to work longer hours" or "It's not located in a trendy city."
Let me give an example. I know someone who works 2 part-time minimum-wage jobs and is a Bernie Sanders supporter. His mom told me that 1 of his jobs recently offered him a promotion to be a salaried manager. He turned it down because he is afraid that he might have to work longer shifts if he has a full-time job. Now of course he'll vote Bernie Sanders and complain that we all need to redistribute wealth to him because there are no good jobs available.
By the way, did you know that having a car loan is a choice? Most poor people don't know that.

I could never be a trucker because I could not back an 18 wheeler into a narrow alley. Seeing this is an amazing sight to me. I've had trucks make slow turns as I've sat at a light, coming inches away from my fender as I cringe and they smile, knowing they've got it. To me that is a talent.
It is also a dangerous job if you drive in snowy or icy areas, always trucks off the highway in storms. But they have pressure to get their deliveries on time. And you need good health, vision and depth perception.
Not rare. Smart and hardworking people make poor financial and marital decisions all the time.
Most people have to deal with financial problems, debt problems, relationship problems, work problems, family problems, health problems, ... throughout their lives. Yet, they don’t end up poor.
So, how do they manage? And what’s the difference between people who pull through and those who don’t?
