Why? Do you want to keep illegal immigration easy to do?

IIRC, the Republicans were willing to compromise by legalizing the DACA kids ("Dreamers") in return for some funding for the wall. Why aren't the Democrats willing to compromise on anything, at all? As the OP pointed out, they are the ones who will likely receive greater pressure to compromise, given that they are likely to be more sympathetic to the plight of the furloughed federal workers than will President Trump.

In other words, how much wall are federal workers worth to the Democrats?

How long should the Democrats keep a large part of the Federal Government closed to stop the border wall?

You republicans don't take any responsibility for anything. Was there a bill presented in the republican House and the republican Senate? If so what was the vote? Was there a vote?

Stop bull ****ting America by trying to placate the needs of a child.

sheesh
Because the dems have no empathy, cannot engage in introspection, and cannot comprehend the simple acts of cause and effect.

Ten years or so ago, their Democratic Party leaders were all in favor of border security, spoke out to denounce illegal immigration, they passed laws to build a border fence, and their dem fan base was right their with them, clapping like trained seals.

Then the same exact Democratic Party leaders did a 180 flip, refuse to fund the fence, and speak out against enforcement of our immigration laws. They are shutting down the federal government to NOT build a fence/wall along the border, and their dem fan base are right their with them, clapping like trained seals, again.

OP, you sound - concerned.

"Look what you made me do!" is the rationale used by wifebeaters and terrorists. Giving in never ends well.

The Dems in Congress do not care about anyone, or anything, they hate Trump and want to do anything they think might make him look badly. Which is why they refused an offer which would have granted a pathway to citizenship for the Dreamers, and why they's rather shut down the government then build a fence out in the middle of the desert, to add more border security.

Building a fence is infrastructure, it would employ hundreds of people. The fence will not harm anyone. It will increase border security. However, the dems have to block it, simply because making Trump look bad is all that drives the Democrats.

You didnt need a single Democratic vote to pass a spending/budget bill. So no, the ball is in the Republicans court.

The dems already have a plan to reopen the govt by the end of the week. Will the reps go along with it?

The government is not slightly closed because 66% of the non-DOD government workers are either working without pay or in furlough status.

Did I misunderstand, or did the Dotard say he was taking responsibility for shutting down the government unless he got his edifice to his (lack of) masculinity?

How long? Until he agrees that there will be no wall, a bipartisan agreement is in place to fund border security and immigration reform .

Zero, zero and zero. Repubs passed on that deal, and Dems wisely won't offer it again. Americans do NOT want a wall on their borders.

If this wall thing gets out of the gate, it will either be a "wall to nowhere" or a constant sponge which requires support, maintenance and repairs. No thanks to any of that.

This pretty much nails it.

The free ride and the fleecing of the people is about to end. Smart democrats will make the GOP own their behavior while they controlled the House, The Senate and the White HOuse and got NONE of the people's business done. Meanwhile, they helped themselves to anything which wasn't mailed down. That is OVER.

"The Dems in Congress do not care about anyone, or anything, they hate Trump and want to do anything they think might make him look badly"....he needs no help in the look bad arena...he is doing fine there.....after all, no one is smarter/better/faster/richer/more honest than him.

This is not a democratic party issue.....this is a republican party issue....there are not enough votes in either chamber....on the republican side.
