Fact is, it's pretty stupid to believe that people had the money for plane fare, had the passport and visa necessary, but stayed just so they could pluck chickens and send the money home.

Even if they had plane fare, they aren't getting on a plane to the US.
Despite what the political extremes tell you there is no 100% solution to the problems of illegal immigration or global inequality. The best wall would do nothing about people who legally come and illegally over stay. Open borders wouldn't solve poverty because not all people can or will leave their poor home nation and there is only so much room in rich nations. The best solution is a combination of border enforcement with projects to improve the nations people are so desperate to leave. If borders were literally opened eventually rich Americans would start buying up the prime land in Mexico and live in little rich enclaves, mass of poor would live in neighborhoods in the former USA that would soon be as problem prone as where they left.
Who the hell said that a wall would stop the visa over stayers? It's for the thousands that are jumping our border illegally every month, duh.
There is seriously something wrong with your inability to see that Trump is not eloquent and often trips over his words and you have to look at the whole message not parse words and diagram sentences to know what he is saying. You certainly tie yourself in ridiculous knots coming up with rationalizations for the dozen or so lies Trump makes up or repeats every single day. No one innocently is such a poor speaker as Trump - he talks word salad intentionally so folks like you make excuses for him...guess it works for some of the people some of the time but it sure as hell doesn't work on me.

Walls and other physical barriers actually work. That is why they put them around prisons and military bases and mansions. That is why they use them as a barrier to flood surges from hurricanes and tsunamis. Walls actually do something and it's not insignificant. It takes walking across our border from ridiculously easy to significantly more difficult. Put razor wire across the top and it's even harder. Put guards at the wall and it gets harder. Put planes, drones and helicopters in the air patrolling and it gets even more difficult. Put in technology to detect underground tunnels and it gets even more difficult. But a wall or whatever the hell you want to call it is the perfect foundational starting point to build on for securing the border.
What Democrats don't want to admit. What they're really up to is trying to stuff the ballot box by somehow forcing the United States to grant citizenship to illegals, knowing that they mostly vote Democrat. They don't want to admit to it, especially those who are in Congress, but that's what's actually happening here.
