Cassidy introduced an amendment this year that would crack down on drug traffickers laundering money across the southern American border. The American government could then use the seized funds for increased border security and to build President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall
Geezus...we have been "cracking down on drug traffickers" for 40 years and it's only gotten worse, what grand plan does Cassidy have to change that?

Budget Request for 2018 Federal drug control
Treatment: $10,783.4 (38.9% of total)
Prevention: $1.339 billion (4.8% of total)
Domestic Law Enforcement: $9,235.8 billion (33.3% of total)
Interdiction: $5,022.4 billion (18.1% of total)
International: $1375.0 billion (5% of total)
Total: $25.89 billion

And every year the cost goes up and so does the demand for drugs...so, you tell me how Cassidy plans to fix a problem that has been a sinkhole for trillions of taxpayer dollars for decades?

I don't think you quite grasp what a 'wall' does. I Imagine the ranchers and farmers that rely on water from the Rio Grande have a better idea.

I'm gonna say the ranchers pull water through pipes not stooping by the river filling pails.

This thread will soon number 2,000 comments...

Many noting how childish so many of these comments tend to be. Many simply repeating facts, reason and logic that has been repeated many times before. Lots of insults about the left and/or right, all apparently as if any make a difference. If anyone wonders why Trump and the Democrats are in stalemate, simply consider how well all the exchange of opinion and perspective has worked to change people's minds in this forum.

Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I think it would be more productive to consider why nobody of contrary opinion makes sense to us, rather than simply play "whack the mole" with every comment that pops up in these threads. Can't be any less productive anyway...

Ok, good point about the pails of water. However, read this:

https://www.star-telegram.com/news/s...152402734.html

https://www.texastribune.dorg/2018/0...-ranching-rio/

Indeed, the ranchers have been consistent in their opposition, as witness this article from 2007:

https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-...-border-fence/

No, the Rio Grande is not just a puddle:

https://www.rgisc.org/about-the-rio-grande.html

Indeed, it floods at times:

I also imagine, to go back to the farmer's usage of the water for irrigation, that their piping system would be compromised by a border wall. At least, so say the farmers.

So, Mr. Trump is currently pledging to veto any spending bill that does not include money for his wall. Say the Democrats cave in, the CR is passed, the wall is funded.

Two months later, what would Mr. Trump demand to sign off on yet another CR?

Maybe....

Politics is the art of the possible.

But Dems have to decide what's more important....

Reopening the government... ...

Or defying Trump.

I've also heard it said that "politics is the art of ambiguity mixed with sleight of hand."
