Here are the facts on our "southern border crisis".
There is no "border crisis."
I can step out my front door and get to the border in less than 45 minutes if I walk at a leisurely pace. I've lived on the Texas/Mexico border for more than 35 years.
Back in the early 90s, border security truly WAS a problem. Auto theft was rampant, with vehicles stolen from TX driven to chop shops in Mexico and the parts returned to auto shops throughout the USA. Pickups were especially prone to larceny.
That all changed when Sylvestre Reyes took command as Border Patrol chief in 1993 and instituted Operation Hold The Line. The reduction in crime was immediate and dramatic.
Here are the facts on our "southern border crisis". What the chart shows is that Bush and Obama did a fantastic job of protecting our Southern border in the years since 9/11. Not only was there NOT a crisis - we were doing a damned good job of improving the situation. A smart President would have learned about why that worked - and crafted his policy around the lessons learned.
On the second point, the fact that we've allocated funds in this recent compromise to create 55 miles of wall in critical areas is perfect. 55 miles out of 1954 miles is 2.8% of the length of the border. I'll go for that.
Done. Let's give Trump his pathetic compromise to soothe his ego, and let's move on.
Right. Let the Trumpies call it a win. No problem.
The uninformed posters in this thread illustrate the censorship of the media. A feeble fence? A cement wall? That is yesterday's news. Try to keep up!
This is what they are building. Do you Loony Leftists not believe your God Accosted who went to the border and stood next to the steel slat barrier and said there were no illegals? Was he lying? If Cartoon News Network cameras had scanned the length of it would they have shown hordes catapaulting over?
In this particular negotiation, Trump wanted 64 miles and would be getting 55 for one section of the border designated as high risk now by border patrol. WeBuildTheWall group might very well build the remaining 9 miles which they could easily afford. And do it quicker for less money than the Feds! Learn more at the recent Town Hall in Tucson.
I'm sure OG has me on ignore, but could someone whose posts he still reads (as few as that may be) ask him if he supports this deal? And how he will feel if Trump signs off on it?
And yet Israel is still building walls. Why? Because they obviously work.
You can't compare Israel's border to the US border. The border is much shorter, there isn't a river like the Rio Grande that comprises a significant part of the border and the terrain along the US Mexico border is much more uneven than in Israel. All of those factors make building a wall here more difficult, way more expensive and less efficient.
