They didn't show the anthem before either except for MFN. People like Trump insisted on making a big thing out of it, and some of his followers said they will boycott football. It seems the boycotters got tired of boycotting, over such trivia matter, so they quietly started watching again.
except the NFL chose to take away the kneelers platform, effectively choosing the anti-kneelers over the kneelers. so no longer a need to boycott.

I'm repeating myself here but like I said they mostly shut up about it. Without it being rubbed in people's faces, and largely ignored, it both neutered the protests and stalled out the momentum behind the boycotts. And for a while there they were showing the anthem more often so they could show who was protesting and who wasn't. I'm glad they've thought better of it. Directly antagonizing the core of your fan base is not smart business.
Most Americans could care less about the kneeling issue. They either watch games because it's exciting and fun, or they don't. Despite some crowing that the NFL would fail because of the kneeling issue and 'disrespect' of the military (remember the support the troops boycott NFL nonsense that utterly failed?), ratings are up again.
Television ratings for the NFL rose 5 percent from 2017 to 2018, the league announced Wednesday.
Average viewership for NFL games averaged 15.8 million viewers during the 2018 regular season, excluding London broadcasts. Additionally, average digital streaming viewership for all games was up 86% from last year.
The NFL dominated television viewership, claiming 46 of the top 50 telecasts during the regular season. The most-viewed game of the campaign was the Week 12 matchup between the Reskins and Cowboys on Thanksgiving, which drew 30.5 million viewers.

SO who was boycotting? I have heard from both sides. Those boycotting the NFL because they will not hire Kaeperick, and those boycotting because of some stance on kneeling, as in letting players do it. It is already out now, Kaepernick supporters condemning any performer who is wanting to perform for the SB.

Many who watch football do care.
Hello?? Did you see the owners and the network elites scrambling to fix this last year so that their bottom line would not be impacted? Don't be fooled... they took a hit last year.
I guarantee you that ESPN would show more kneelers if they could get away with it. However, the football watchers (read free market) spoke loudly last year.
