"Our question to the President and to the Republicans is, 'Why don't you accept what you have already done to open up government?' " asked California Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the presumed new House speaker, referring to a bipartisan, Senate-passed funding measure, albeit one Trump has never publicly endorsed.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he asked Trump why the government couldn't be reopened while the two sides work to resolve their differences.

"I asked him directly ... He could not give a good answer," Schumer said.

Trump thinks that he doesn't already look like the village idiot? Really? lol

I thought he would address and proliferate the lies he tells his base about a wall being the best security measure but no...the dolt admitted he just did not want to look foolish.

We already knew this. He was ready to sign a clean CR until a couple of talking heads got ahold of him. He can't go back until they tell him it's okay.

He needs to understand that the presidency isn't about how he looks, its about doing the right thing. Given that the majority don't want this idiotic and expensive wall this wouldn't be hard at all for a president who was concerned about the country. But impossible for one only concerned about himself.

Putting the kids in timeout, may take some more time.
Keep shoving their face in the corner, Trump. They will learn.... You are not one of them.

Not true! Trump doesn't let anyone tell him what to do. He's not that type of person and you know it. He might listen to other's opinions but ultimately he makes his own decisions and you have no proof of it being otherwise. It's just another way to demonize him. You Trump haters will go to any lengths to do that.

Trump just says the wrong thing.

Instead of justifying his defiance to accept an offer because the wall is critical -- he basically just admitted the reason he's standing firm with the wall is because 'how it looks'.

When you have solid, justifiable arguments for your actions -- you don't talk about how you look defending them.

I wouldn't believe a word of what Pelosi and Schumer say. No way should Trump give in to those two imbeciles.

They just don't get it. With no border security funding, the shutdown will go on, which is fine with me. Schumer and Pelosi can stick it where the sun don't shine.
