For those who think Trump won, if it's easier to negotiate funds for the wall with the government open during these three weeks, why even shut it down at all?

Poor baby. The indignity of being confined to the White House. Packing bags for a weekender at Mar A Lago away from the common people.

Maybe not. McConnell could be so disgusted by Trumpian (non)tactics that he will sign on to whatever his members want.

I don't think Trump will try another shutdown. Obviously, he understands what a bad move that was.

If Congress comes to an agreement and signs, Trump will likely hold his nose and sign it. Pelosi will make sure that there's something in it for him, because she's a master at winning while giving the other side a way to save face. (Irrelevant aside - an object lesson for her successor, whoever that turns out to be.)

If Congress doesn't come to an agreement and sends Trump a Continuing Resolution, he will sign, as long as they tell him they're actively working on it. And they will be.

The final bill, when it comes, will look more like the D plan and less like Trump's plan.

Assuming that is the case this would also indicate Pelosi has resigned herself to offering some funding for the wall because this is not something she would give up for a three week reprieve.
Oh, I'm sure he'll get his SOTU speech now, which is what this was probably all about. But he'll be doing it under Nancy's terms, which he caved to today.

I don't know how you get from Trump caving to Pelosi's demands to her caving on his. Why should she? The country is on her side. There will be zero money for his wall in the future. Zero.

The Democrats offered $5.7 for border security. That's what he will get. Take it or leave it. But he won't be trying to shut down the government again. That has been a big loser for him.

And it's amazing and I made it a point to hear him in the Rose Garden, he thanked all the great generous workers for giving up their paychecks for the sake of the "wall"...all I can say is P U K E.

Kenny Rogers said it best you gotta know when to hold them and when to fold them.

Cheeto's position was unsupportable/unintelligent/fiscally irresponsible.

Trump is announcing a 3 week reprieve and going on about his wall.
Maybe his shut-down was a way to inadvertently cripple the FBI investigation.
