There is a large Hispanic population in Texas also so I'm skeptical.
Oh this is all Texan hog wash.

Something got lost in the context here, I'm talking about the government workers who aren't getting paid and/or are furloughed; they have jobs

Maybe Trump is squeezing the life out of the government. So many programs will vanish if the shutdown continues for a long time. We could look back and see this as the Great Restructuring. When people realized they don't need government.

That food stamps only make people dependent. That we don't need 800,000 non-essentials.

This is the Great Restructuring of the US Government. At last!
Less consumer spending, just like the good old days of the Great Depression. Maybe we too will learn, do not throw that out, it may be useful.

Question is, when they take the second job to get through the furlough period will they go back to the other job? The longer this drags on, the less chance they'll go back.

Won't hurt either. It will help with the deficit, however.

Summed up, you basically don't care about anybody but yourself, maybe your family, and your precious King Cheeto

Govt jobs are just like any other job, no industry or job is 100% secure and safe, the govt employees knew shutdowns were a possibility, if they dont like it, they are free to find another job, nobody is forcing them to go back when this is over, they can do whatever they like.

volatility vs security

Most of these workers make about $500 a week. If they land something making the same income, even, chances are they will stay with the one they feel more secure.

I know I wouldn't want to be in their shoes, trying to figure it all out.
