No it isn't, I thought I already went over this with you. People vote, not land
What a silly statement, and probably the worst strawman to limp down the pike in a long time. The Electoral College originates in the Constitution is designed to protect the people, and served the nation very well.
trump did win the majority of the country.... 31 states to 19 states...that is actually a super majority
States don’t vote. People vote. The EC essentially allows a voting block and takes away your individual choice.
Why is it fair that Downstate NY Democrats determine who the the whole of New York should install as President, when Upstate NY Republicans voted entirely the the opposite.
Why is my vote in Alabama useless in a national election because I’m a Democrat?
In the National Election it should be...One person. One voice. One vote.
You only like it because it is starting to favor the Republicans. Knowing you, you would be against it if it started to favor the Democrats.....
Wrong. I've always liked it, as it balances population and equal representation of states, too. The 435 are proportionally represented by population (House), the 100 equal distribution (Senate), plus 3 for DC. so 435 of 538 are broken per population. 3 are gifted to DC (which favors Dems). 100 are split by land.
Ingenious.
The fact it drives lefties insane is simply a bonus to me.
But it’s not about California. Or Idaho. Or any state. In a national election we should not consider state boundaries. We are electing a President of the Country. If your candidate can put his or her ideas out there and the majority OF THE COUNTRY agrees with your candidate, then that candidate should win. The person who came in second place should not be the winner. Your vote alone should determine the Presidential Election and not the political machinery of your State.
You can capitalize or bold country, the constitution protects the states from one or a few populated centers from forcing their will on them. So Idaho citizens along with inhabitants of the other 3 elector states would have to agree to be ruled by the will of those in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City
Left wing nuts forget the "United States" part of United States of America.
That the cornerstone of the federation was that states still retained a partial essence of sovereignty but brought together by founding principles that of which consist of un/inalienable rights, freedom protections, and an understanding of just representation...for each individual state and people thereof.
Really it's a protection of diversity, a hedge against mob rule, and an insurance of loyalty to the federation by people with different ideologies, interests, values, and backgrounds. It apportions power, protects local interests, more fairly distributes resources, and identifies the needs of those that would otherwise not be represented.
