Hopefully, they will.

That pay won't do much for the rest of the DC Metro area though - or any other area that is home to a number of federal workers. Regular businesses are hurting too, big time. No one is going to come in and make up for what they've lost and continue to lose daily. The knock on effect is considerable. God help people in the service industry who rely on tips to even hit minimum wage. It's hard to get tips when you don't have many customers.

A friend of mine works in fine dining. They do 75-100 booked tables on a normal Friday night. Tonight they are have 19 on tap.

Fight or flight. Who holds the Aces?
People have choices. Eat, or cry they don't have a job?
File for unemployment benefits.

The "sightseeing" support areas around DC are already being hit pretty hard. Restaurants, food trucks, hotels. That is back pay they will never see.

Glad to know you are a supporter of the political elite and increasing their pay. Will keep that in mind for some of your other posts.

You sound like you are beholding to government and need them to survive.

Bless. If only it were that simple.

A few complications though certainly not all:

Some can file for benefits. Any received must, however, be paid back after. Keyword: Some.
Others can't file because they are working now, despite not getting paid.
There are also a good number of fed employees who are not allowed to have a second job. Even during shut downs so they can't pick up something part time.

And it's only going to get worse. No one is going to help them out or make up the difference...unless, of course, we're talking businesses that are part of a Fortune 500 company. I'm sure they'll be given help in the form of a write off or something.

You are, by far, the most bitter poster on this subject. It’s like you actually get enjoyment knowing decent, hard-working people are suffering.
You are either completely clueless as to the work federal employees do, or are just one who who was never selected for a position. That would explain a lot.
Will you be happier if the TSA workers and air traffic controllers say ********** and walk off their jobs? You seem to think this shutdown will have no negative effect on the country.

I would think they would get tired of WaPo telling them how to think.

Would you "think" that a POTUS who ran on draining the swamp, and whom YOU say has been successful in undoing much of Obama's good work, would maybe be strong enough to stop this? Do you really think Trump is so weak that he can't stop a 6-year old raise from going through AT THE SAME TIME that he is proudly claiming that he has the power and responsiblity for shutting down the Gov't and preventing millions of American families from getting paid?

Don't be silly!

don't pay the federal workers who are affected by the shutdown while they are out - at all - and then you might have something to complain about. they are essentially on paid leave now.
