Teachers and nurses certainly make more in Canada, as do most police. Canadian corporate tax is lower, and you are correct, personal income tax is marginally higher. However, Canadians do not pay those extremely high medical insurance rates (universal healthcare is a major reason why life expectancy is higher in Canada)
nor do they pay the excruciating university fees that US students must.

Generally speaking, the total cost of living is higher in the USA.

Canadians get healthcare in place of endless wars of choice of no benefit to their country.

the american dream is what YOU make it to be, not what the writers of some newspaper or magazine wants it to be. the US is still the place to be as successful as you want to be if you are willing to put in the work. you want to be rich? put in the effort. you want to just be the best at your job, again put in the effort.

Most people do not want to be rich, they want to make enough to live on and have a decent quality of life. The US is great for greedy people who crave material goods and lots of money. Those people will kill themselves with their fierce competition and climbing over everybody else. That's what this sort of society breeds, not compassionate, helpful people, but cut throat, mean spirited people who crave more and more and more. Gigantic houses, multiple cars, the bigger the better, ostentatious show of wealth.

The American dream would be a modest house, decent car/s, more time off from work to spend with family or to travel or just enjoy life, no constant worrying about the cost of health care. We've become a country of the super rich and then the rest of us. Many of the rest of us don't even have a decent standard of living, something Americans used to be so proud of--our standard of living.

Not true....at all.

Would Australia and New Zealand not be themselves? Would Hong Kong not be Hong Kong? Japan? Singapore?

None of those nations would be what they are without the US.
