Yes and no. The fundamentals were there because of Obama...and Yellen. However if you look back at markets toward the end confidence was waning. Right now Germany and Japan are in recession and China's growth rate is crashing.
It's the fickle thing. Trump didn't do anything except to not be Clinton, but that was enough to cause business investment to jump. The stock market shot up on nothing but perception. It really underscored the power and weakness of the Presidency. Unite business interests and it can power the economy forward on sheer will....at least in the short term.
Still, the money supply shifted to Powell, and Powell wants to raise rates...even the President can't override the Fed. Somewhere he knows that, but like any politician, he's going to paint the blame game on the Fed...and the investment community is listening....everyone is listening. All he had to do to get out his message is to start tweeting...and to make sure both sides listened, all he had to do was misspell some words.
Repugnant....but effective.
Yet what is this assessment based upon? Hate groups will hate American no matter what because we are the leader. Unlike Bush, he's not going to war with these groups. He's dismissing them. Our rebel allies are realizing now is not the time to pick a losing fight because the US is not going to show up and save you.
This is a President that picks sides, and he keeps his selection process seemingly at random. My guess is he doesn't understand half of it, but simply lets the wonks choose and then he makes up a reason. While horrible sounding...the end result at the two year mark has been a strong performance by the US. He's doing what he said he would do. He's the character, ad libbing a bit, but going off someone else's script. He's a vanity actor...he doesn't like to share the stage.
And he's going to get paid extraordinarily well for being the butt end of every comedian's jokes. The lawsuits against him are going to get less vigorous. The IRS will likely not act against a sitting President, and his regulations will save his family a billion dollars in estate taxes. That's why he's there. The Office will protect him.
The rest...well, he's all about ratings, and he's certainly getting them. Unhinged as he comes off as, our frenemies are all taking a chill pill and figuring...this too will pass. Just wait a few more years...and a lot can happen in a few years.
If you look at what's happened in the country and what the actual actions have been....Trump has been a repugnant President, but an effective one. Sometimes that's what the country actually needs.
Maybe in a decade from now we'll look back and see Trump as an effective POTUS...........or maybe not.
He hasn't done anything more special at this point than any other President before him when it comes to actually running the country. I have said repeatedly that what he has done is armed himself with a bag of stakes, and is constantly hammering them into the ground to divide group A from B from C...etc. It is so blatantly obvious to me that this is a reality and not a fabrication.
On the provided scale, the donald gets a 1. As to the donald voters, I'll make my own scale. The donald voters get a negative 500.
In the future, can we somehow educate them so that they understand that "The Apprentice" is just a fake TV show?
Right after we educate them on the limited role of what the President, in truth, is. A figurehead that can steer a raft, but can't change the direction of the river its on.
Well if you listen to Trump supporters, the economy was in the toilet up until Jan 20, 2016 and then a miracle happened and the economy recovered instantaneously just like unemployment.
It was 2017, but yes. What I find funny is many of the Obama months actually had better job gains yet it was a fake recovery. The same people under Trump claim the economy is great thanks to Trump, despite Trump policy not being exactly in place and effecting jobs yet.
Trump is a salesman. He's trying way too hard to convince people how great he is. Polar opposite of quietly going about your business. He picked terrible initial team members as evidence of the fallout in his first 2-years. Scandal, conspiracy theory, circus, whatever you want to call it, controversy sticks to Trump like super glue. He definitely has given the media a profitable boost with huge gains in the global television audience. He is tabloid material. I say this knowing that past presidents have had their own tabloid material. Trump just plays the game better, or so he thinks.
What I find interesting from the poll is 40% of people gave Trump a score of 5 or better. 60% of people think Trump is doing a sub-par to abysmal job as president. I'd say the 8-10 group which are 90 votes (they are 74% of those rating Trump 5 or better) and those that think Trump is only doing a 1-2 which is 171 votes (they make-up 93% of those rating Trump 4 or worse) are the extremes on both sides. Those that think Trump is doing a terrible job seem to be much more on here than those thinking he is doing a great job, despite more posts by those thinking he is great.
I'm sorry to be saying this, but Trump is not only the worst president ever, but worse than I ever would have thought possible. He's so bad - ignorant, mean, narcissistic, bigoted, petty, bullying, vulgar, greedy, predatory, shallow, dictatorial, mendacious - that he makes other "bad" presidents look better by comparison.
That's weird because I think he kicks ass!
The economy is on fire.
Wages are going up because we have more jobs than people to fill them.
I really do wonder about the people giving him a rating of one. Do they really believe that not a single positive thing came from Trump? Decreased taxes, low unemployment, stock market doing well, ISIS pretty much wiped out. That stuff doesn't count for any credit whatsoever, huh?
Same guys that think Obama was the best and most Transparent President ever
I give Trump 5 points over Obama just for being more peaceful
I give him a 5 soley because politics has never been so entertaining... Lol
I gave him a five for pretty much the same reasons.. He spouts crap the dems were all for not so long ago and their heads explode. Then he trashes the Republicans or undermines their position. That said at least he isn't Hillary. I wish that he was Jim Webb
