If you want to understand the lack of mobility of certain communities, you need to remember that escaping poverty is the exception not the rule.

There is NO QUESTION that a lot of the things that happen to blacks is unwarranted and unfair, NO QUESTION. But we (and you) can't change those things. What can be changed, and this has to happen from your side) is that you need to make some very significant changes in a few areas that will make a huge difference in how blacks live and are perceived :

1) Way too much black on black crime and black on white crime. We have our white criminals too, absolutely, but the subject of this thread is BLACK people and how they are viewed. Way too many of your young people think that breaking the law is a way of life. Your young need to learn that if they want something, go out and earn it, like decent people always do.

2) Education. Education is the key to success, and kids (all kids, white or black) need to begin getting a better education and to stay in school, and learn while you are in school.

3) Family structure. Way too many "baby daddies" and "baby mommies" in the black community. Kids need a STRONG structured home life and parents who are there for them and who want to teach those kids right from wrong. We used to manage a low income housing development, and 80-90 % of the women there (who were black) had multiple children, with multiple "daddies", most of whom were only around when they needed some loving or a place to crash.

So, I know that all is coming from an older white man, and I do not know all you go through, but I BET, if you saw more and more black people doing those things, that things would begin to change for you in a big way.

Make no mistake, we whites have a lot of cleaning up to do in our own houses, but that is not the subject here we are discussing.

I don't think you truly grasp what you suggest when you suggest that black people need to resolve this problem. For that to happen blacks would have to discriminate in favor of blacks.....and society would then have to legally grant black people a pass to do so. That is not going to happen because the laws enacted to prevent whites from discriminating and favoring their own, which resulted in the crippling of blacks and the elevation of whites, now prevents any group from racially discriminating to favor their own even if it is an attempt to rectify past discrimination against that group.

As soon as blacks start discriminating and lifting up blacks.......you can bet there will be white folks filing lawsuits against such efforts and practices as discriminatory....and it is. You see....you can't fix a problem WITHOUT DISCRIMINATING. That is because you cannot fix a problem without TARGETING and whatever you put in the cross hairs inherently discriminates against that which is not in the cross hairs. America has always feared black unity for it feared that blacks would then do unto others what had been done to them, once they reached equality....power.

When 70 percent of black children come from single parent families of course blacks are going to worse off. THAT is reality.
And avoid debt like the plague!! Debt is how you actually become an indentured servant...

Yeah...if we all avoided debt the economy would collapse before our eyes. Our whole economic system is now predicated upon.....debt.

Well that's a problem, isn't it. It's a little scary that the economy is basically held up by irresponsibility.

Sometimes mortgages make sense, if you pay less in interest than you'd gain investing it in the market.

Or if you go to a public uni and major in something practical.

Other than that, debt is the devil.

Our economic system is predicated on capitalism, in which case you do what is best for yourself, which is often different than what everyone else is doing.

That said, I have made a lot of money off of debt, so for me, avoiding it would have been a big mistake.

None of that changes the fact that if debt were to cease....the economy would collapse, notwithstanding it being based upon capitalism. Also, what is true of a part does not prove as proof for the whole (fallacy of composition).

Missing the point. If somehow avoiding debt is right for YOU, then you do that, without worrying what would happen if everyone else started doing it. That is part of capitalism.
