It is naive to think that killing someone even in self defense would not affect your life. Even pointing a weapon at a person in a legal and necessary situation has an altering effect. If it doesn't then you should take some time for self reflection.
I didn't mean it in the sense that I wouldn't struggle with PTSD or have emotional recovery from it over time. I had PTSD even from going through the incident WITHOUT killing the guy, and I was messed up for a long time from it. I meant it more in the sense that I wouldn't have any guilt over it. I know I wouldn't kill someone unless I was left with no choice, so it's not something I'd carry any guilt over.
You can never know. I had an acquaintance that was a law enforcement officer. His partner was killed and he in turn shot and killed the criminal. It wrecked him and he couldn’t be a cop anymore and isn’t right or this day, some 10 years later.
You're not even comprehending the OP's question. No, we don't all kill plenty of people. It's not the same thing. If someone was attacking you could dig your fingers into his trachea and pull with all your might until he was dead? If someone was shooting at your loved ones could you shoot back and try to kill the mother***ker?
That's the kind of personal, hands on killing the OP is talking about. It doesn't compare to impersonal corporate killing.
It's not theft, it's taxation. It's not murder, it's collateral damage or justice. It's not fraud, it's regulation.
I could if my life or my family's lives were at stake. It would change my life immeasurably. But not as much as if my husband or child were killed and I could have stopped it but didn't.
I don't think I am capable of hurting or much less killing another human being.
Well in self defense I would try to make you incapable to stop you though.
It's interesting to read these responses. It tells a lot about people and who we walk amongst. It's not so simple as killing in self defense. It's more or less how easy it is for some people and how little they are affected by killing somebody.
Well...I m going to stop here or I know some of you will become defensive.

I wasn't addressing you directly but making a general statement.

It's not easy. But in those few seconds you have to choose to fight or die. And the emotional repercussions will last the rest of your life. Time heals but it doesn't erase anything.
