Why would any teacher in this day and age do anything that could be construed as 'offensive,' regardless? If I was a teacher these days, I would be very careful to do things by the book and as safe as possible.

A white city public school teacher — who claims she was wrongfully fired over a controversial lesson on slavery in which she was accused of having black students lie on the floor while she stepped on their backs — plans to sue the city for $1 billion.

Patricia Cummings, 37, was canned in October after complaints about the highly unorthodox teaching method that left some students feeling humiliated and singled out by the exercise.

Sixty years ago, my SIL taught at an all white suburban school. Her first lesson was about plants needing sun to grow. All the kids brought a potato, the bottom section in a jar of water so they could watch the roots grow. SIL put one potato in the closet. No sun, no growing.

The kid whose potato went into the closet went home and told his momma teacher killed my potato. The Chit hit the fan. After that valuable new teacher lesson, following years,SIL brought the doomed potato.

Every teacher's college has these kinds of stories. Every teacher's lounge has these stories.

That teacher walking on kids backs was stupid. She could have injured a kid in the process.

Stepping on students is not the way to encourage learning. If she felt that she needed to make a point about the cruelty of slavery she should have asked for volunteers from the class and chosen students of different races.

It is crazy to think about the amount of the class action lawsuit. It would have been far cheaper for everyone involved if she had just had sex with her students.

Some people have a backbone still(Pun intended). Some are raised to be the life long victim.
You can go along to get along, but eventually you will be busted for not buying the entire catalog of CRAZY. They find a reason to be offended today, instead of laughing at the fool. Mentally enraged through life.

You have every right to offend anyone. Everyone has a right to say, NO and move on.
Educate the kids just enough to be influenced by half truths and lies, but never intelligent enough to see right through them.

Teach your kid they can say NO to anyone. Until they are 18 they answer to the parent.
