About 30,000 are employed by the Federal Prison Systems, mostly in rural areas. The lack of a paycheck is hurting local economies all over the US.
Then there’s jail space in county jails leased by the federal government who are increasingly challenged to pay their bills to local contractors because they are not being paid by the Fed.
The private for profit prison complex that operates some Federal Prisons are not being paid and can not sustain this indefinitely.
Pence speaking for Trump made clear Trump would sign a CR to avoid a shutdown and allow negotiations to proceed without impacting Federal Employees and services. With that assurance, McConnell allowed a Senate vote to proceed and the majority favored the CR. Then unelected political opinionators, Colter, Limbaugh and Ingram criticized Trump and he decided to Shut Down instead of signing a CR.
Most recently, Trump offered a temporary extentiin of DACAin exchange for $5 billion. Colter, Limbaugh and Ingram criticized.
SCOTUS today blew a hole through Trump’s offer to temporarily extend DACA.
Despite 2 years in office, there is no plan for the wall. No bank or private lender would invest $ billions in anything without a well vetted plan. Yet, seems the Trump Admin expects Congress to do so.
In the meantime, Federal Workers and many local economies are hurting because of the protracted shutdown.
