The majority of them would not vote for the wall, although unfortunately for them, since their livelihood is affected by it, many of them at this point would probably be fine with it if it ended the government shutdown. They are being used as pawns and are being held hostage.

This is the system. If every decision that every person in power made had to be justified nothing would get done. Elected officials are called "honorable" -- probably not all the time but in formal parlance they get that before their name. It says... by the nature of you winning the election you will deemed honorable.

This is the President of the United States. If he says something is needed and it doesn't appear to be completely out of line, shocking the conscious, he should get it. Or he should get something reasonably close to it. Congress should sit down and try to work with him (and seriously try to work with him) and the reason is.. because the entire system will collapse if it isn't done that way.

Being the president of the USA in wanting this wall is substantial americans who want it. And you should defer to your fellow americans who want it. Or at least hear them and ask honestly if this is an outrageous request or just something you don't like.
Obey your leader, why do Americans find this so hard to understand? I come from an autocratic country where this type of common sense is beat into you from early on.

So, Trump intends to hold the hostage until they want the wall? That the plan?

That’s just not true. There are federal workers all over our country. Many are in red states.

Was this your opinion when the Senate refused to hold confirmation hearings for Obama's Supreme Court pick for a year? Mitch McConnell said, "One of my proudest moments was when I looked Barack Obama in the eye and I said, 'Mr. President, you will not fill the Supreme Court vacancy.' " Where was the willingness to sit down and work together?

Remember this started before the newly elected Democratic house majority came into office. The Senate passed a continuing resolution before the talking heads on Fox caused Trump to change his mind about signing it. When the new House came into session they passed funding bills. Mitch McConnell has blocked all bills that might reopen the government from coming up for a vote in the Senate. All McConnell has to do is bring up the continuing resolution that passed 100-0 a few weeks ago. Purple state Republicans are not for continuing the shutdown. It is Congress' job to pass a funding bill. The ball would than be in Trump's court. He has already taken full responsibility for the shutdown. He was proud to shut the government down. Of course he changed his mind on that pretty quickly. Maybe if Congress would actually send Trump a bill he would change his mind again. We may never know because Mitch McConnell refuses to allow the Senate to function.

It was Chuck Schumer's initial actions that caused this. the previous GOP controlled House had passed the budget and Republicans had a majority in the Senate, just not a BIG enough majority and not even a few Democrats could care enough about border security and illegal immigration and be willing to forgo political correctness and vote for the wall funds. Just like every Democrat was willing to crucify Judge Kavanaugh in the public eye just for the sake of their support for abortion knowing that the accusations against him were completely invented and that Ford's entire testimony is a lie.

The Democrats led by their leader Schumer are obsessed with their hatred of Trump and willing to do anything if it means hurting PResident Trump. That's what this shutdown and the Supreme Court hearings were about. I believe that the Democrats in Congress will also vote to end the new NAFTA and go back to the old version even if means returning to unfair trade agreements and more American jobs lost to Mexico, just to spite Trump.
