Trump will give it in the Senate. No big deal.

Because they are patriots. After all they protected Obama when he had his shutdown. That is their job.

No President has the given right to address Congress. He must make a request to the Speaker of the House to make a State of the Union speech.

Since the speech is given in the House of Representatives, and the Speaker of the House has the obligation to keep order in that House, Pelosi is within her rights to deny Trump his speech at the usual time it is given.

This wasn't an unreasonable denial, since the government is currently in shut-down. Shut-down means Congress is not at work doing its proper job. During shut-down, attendance is optional for some members.

Pelosi gave Trump two very reasonable options; Trump can either deliver the speech later, after the government is running and fulfilling its proper function, or he can deliver it to the House where it will be read on the floor by the House clerk.

And the other reasons she listed- the security problems, etc. is also legitimate.

Wait a second. This is according to an official? I thought every time a news report was based on an "official" it was fake news according to Trump supporters?

I think Trump's ego wants the SOTU so badly, that he'll actually cave.

Think of it--all eyes focused on him, the GOP clapping and jumping to their feet, the cameras, the country--the stuff Trump's dreams are made of.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Trump will give up all of that attention and ego fulfillment for a wall...unless he feels like the hammer might be coming down.

He can do 2, one now and one after Nancy and Chuckie, get their thumb out of their mouths.
Only in your head.

Or he can do it in a Stadium in say Phoenix, paid for by his 2016 campaign committee - which probably is still around, and have a hand-selected audience cheering and then send the transcript to the House.

I can almost see a new tradition being born here. Congress just made itself more irrelevant.

A very good summation. I thank you.

Yes, President Trump may deliver a written speech to the House. Just like the old days.

Will he do so?
