They can get those at home. Besides, it’s not like the trip couldn’t be rescheduled. You have to admit it looks really bad for her to be all over the world instead of here so she can’t try to work on a deal. She’s making herself scarce so they can’t meet and the press can put pressure on the president for the shutdown. Don’t they get that there is absolutely nothing in it for Trump if he blinks without getting his wall funding? The Democrats have far more to lose in this than Trump does. She knows it too. They’ve made such a show of it that she’s hoping public opinion and media pressure will force him to give it up, but he’s not like other politicians. He’s not worried about party politics, and he could hardly expect worse treatment from the press than he’s been getting since 2016. He’s worried about his legacy, and keeping promises that are within his power.
I don’t see Trump backing down. If the Dems offered him something that he could save face, then all of them could win. But they are playing by old rules that won’t work on someone who isn’t beholden to his party or political future.
