There were meetings leading up to this week between Pompeo and Bolton and their counterparts, so why even have a meeting if they knew this up front. There is no question he should not have agreed to those a deal under those conditions, does anyone in the world think otherwise. But there was no harm in continuing to meet for another day, what would be the harm. His abrupt departure gave the appearance that he wanted to create a spectacle rather than negotiate.
The problem is that he made a statement after the last meeting that Kim would denuclearize, no one believes that is the case. Kim isn't going to give up all his leverage.
Kim never was or will. Others who have tried understand this. Trump thinks he can for some reason. Maybe he wants a win where no one else has.
The Right would be up in arms had Obama said that he took Kim’s words that he had nothing to do with Otto’s torture and death. Yet crickets and excuses on Trump saying this.
Shame on all that are ok with this type of behavior

First, I was baffled by some of the media saying how this was a big important trip for Trump, when it was pretty clear to me that the chances were that it would flop again. Trump may like to strut, but Kim seems wilier and - amazingly - even more duplicitous than Trump.
Second, I was surprised that Trump wasn't embarrassed when things collapsed, and even walked out, but pretended things were okay.
Third, despite my complete disdain for him, I thought he handled the middle-of-the-night press conference well, although I couldn't help wondering if were being broadcast at that bizarre hour as a testament to his vanity. But if you didn't already know what a god-awful job he was doing overall, he sounded pretty good. Of course he was vague and clearly spinning the situation and using only his limited vocabulary, but he managed to rein in his usual petulance and bullying.
Fourth, I suspect he was very, very lucky to be in Vietnam during the Michael Cohen hearings. He could credibly claim that he hadn't had an opportunity to see much of the hearings, and he could claim to be doing something productive and presidential. (Seth Meyers made a great joke, something about Trump finally being in Vietnam after avoiding it a half-century earlier, but now he was getting killed at home.)
Fifth, I suddenly realized one reason Trump likes to visit Kim. Of course Trump likes being coddled and catered to. But with Kim/NK in particular it gives him the opportunity to strut condescendingly. He can't do that in France, with their marvelous cultural background. He can't do that in Russia, which is the closest thing to another super power. He can't do that in England, with their impressive history. But with NK, he can metaphorically pat Kim on the head and condescendingly say they have tremendous "potential."
Trump saying he takes Kim at his word about Warmbier is like a president saying they believed that Hitler had nothing to do with Jews were being sent to labor camps.
There are many other people in North Korean labor camps/prisons. Warmbier wasn't special just because he was a white American. He went to North Korea for no real reason and did something stupid. Sadly, he paid an unfair price for that. But it was still a result of his own reckless behavior. His parents should not be angry with Donald Trump. Virtually none of this was Donald Trump's fault. With all the thousands of people in North Korean labor camps why should Kim Jon concern himself with Warmbier? Because Warmbier is a rich boy American?

Not standing up to a brutal dictator on behalf of an American citizen who was tortured to death while incarcerated in NK's prison system is absolutely on Donald Trump.

There have been many Americans detained in North Korea over the years. Warmbier was only considered special because he was a rich fraternity boy. That's it.
