The proposed funding would go toward infrastructure at ports of entry and funding 75 new immigration judges, to speed up adjudication of asylum claims. This should go a long way toward dealing with the backlog at the border.
Trump saying he will make an announcement today - hopefully this will end the shutdown.

So...instead of securing the border and protecting Americans, Dems want to put in an express lane for those that want to come here? Sad and pathetic that Democrats put everyone ahead of American citizens.
In a way though I hope they keep it up. In 2020 the new Communist party will be irrelevant.
Well, I for one am hoping Trump bends a little in his offer today, despite saying he wouldn't, and I hope Pelosi does the same and accepts it. I think the wall is dumb but this shutdown is not worth the damage it is causing.
Democrats want only porous solutions that can be reversed the moment the next Dem POTUS takes office. That’s the bottom line. A wall is too permanent of a solution to something they don’t even see as a problem in the first place.

Good grief. According to CNN, "The money includes port security measures as well funding for immigration judges who could help with cases of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border seeking asylum, the source told CNN." Just because Trump doesn't get his honorary wall doesn't mean he won't get more border security. And do you know what a judge is and what the judicial system does? A judge can rule in favor or against a party, meaning, they can choose to approve or deny asylum. Thus, more judges means more people will be put through the system faster, making it more efficient and improving border security. There are many ways to approach any problem.

No, this would be good. Very good. It may be the best thing Dems have offered yet.
We need more judges to resolve asylum cases within three weeks, as Ted Cruz proposed in a bill last June (flat out rejected by Democrats). Because 90% of asylum cases have been denied (will probably be higher in these latest waves) and courts have ruled we can't deport them until resolved (and not enough beds in detention centers to hold them two years). If we can adjudicate cases within three weeks, we can deport 90% of them prior to having to release them into America.
Take your pick. A) 1000 come to border and ask asylum, they stay in detention a few weeks, case is backlogged two years, 1000 get released into America, 100 show up in court later, 900 disappear into the woodwork. B) 1000 come to border and ask asylum, they stay in detention a few weeks, case is resolved in three weeks, 900 get deported, 100 get released into America.
