What's your disability? I have a disabled step-sister just a few years younger than myself and she has a full-time job.
Good for her! It is always heartening to hear of a disabled person who was able to overcome their disability and go back to work. Your family must be very proud of her. What's her disability?
None of us know this person’s backstory. Why has she relied on Section 8 for 20 years? No mention of minor children. There’s a reported disconnect between the cap on rent assistance and average rent. What prevents her from contributing $300/ month? Does she have some sort of disability not obvious to a casual observer?
Think municipalities might be missing an opportunity to convert empty strip malls into compact “ affordable” housing with shared common spaces. Not wonderful but sure beats being homelessness.
All of the people pretending to not understand the point of the woman’s hair color in this thread is...cute.
If the woman in the video had been black, there’d be any number of people posting “well, of course, twenty years on the dole and she’s hoping for more.”
Instead we get posters acting as if Reagan’s definition of a “welfare queen” hasn’t been codified in our country.

Cognitive mixed in with various physical. And yet, she earns a living.
Housing is not affordable because the supply is overwhelmed by the demand. With all the illegals working in construction, you would think this situation would be getting better, but it's not. Now the problem is even worse, because we have all these illegals that require shelter too. We have deviated from a sustainable model long ago. Thankfully, Trump is getting the ship back on course towards prosperity, but nothing happens over night.
FWIW, I know several people in section 8 situation. Only thing I have to say is, fast food was never meant to be a career.
For some, “ fast food” is the best they can do with the cards they have been dealt.
Fast food service may require more skills than some manufacturing jobs covered by legacy union contracts, whereby the worker is paid $25/ hr, plus benefits and maybe a pension.
A Parking Enforcement worker earns an average of $33,500 year, more than 2x the Federal Minimum Wage.
All of these jobs will be replaced by technology substitution at some point in time.
Blonde woman in Colorado is desperately seeking a home but having difficulty and may become homeless. After 20 years of being on Section 8, she is facing homelessness as are many others during our current crisis.
Why are there no time limits to being on Section 8??? And the same goes for food stamps. No one should be on Section 8 and/or food stamps their ENTIRE lives. And she probably isn't saving for retirement either.
This woman had 20 years to better her job skills. And it does sound like she lives by herself, so finding someone to share housing costs with could help her situation.
And listening the social worker, if one bedroom apartments average $1500 a month and the voucher will pay $1300 a month, why can't the recipient pay the difference of $200 a month towards the rent???
This person’s woes predate the Shutdown by 2 decades.
The shutdown means that landlords will not get their section 8 payments from HUD. For the past 20 years housing voucher recipients have never faced such a predicament.
BTW, those on section 8 are required to pay one third of their income toward the rent. The voucher program makes up the difference.

How does this not say to her and everyone else in that situation that they need to move to a lower COL (Cost Of Living) area?
