This question came up on another thread, where I made the mistake of presenting our vets as primarily conservative, without evidence to back it up. I would like to make up for that with a poll from our vets, if you are willing to answer. How do you "identify" politically?
Poll is public to help prevent non-vets from skewing results.
I identify as an independent. I will vote for the person, not the party. For example, my presidential voting record is Clinton, Bush twice, Obama twice, Hillary, yet voted mostly always Republican for governor and Congress. This year voted Straight Republican except our Agriculture Commissioner who is a Democrat.
If the current crop of Democrats they talk about running indeed end up as the front runner (except Biden, will vote for him), will vote for Trump over them.
For topics, pro-choice, anti-death penalty, for very strict border control along with illegals in the US, for gay rights not to be discriminated against yet have zero care for trans people past being treated as a mental illness, love firearms yet need to take some common sense action on them which does not mean restricting law abiding people their rights, oh yea, stay the hell out of places like Syria, Yemen, about everywhere else, have zero care for NATO also...get the picture?
My uncle, served in the Marine Corps, - independent
My uncle, served in the Marine Corps, - Libertarian
<neither of them has seen combat>
My brother, served in the Marine Corps, - Republican
My fiance, served in the Marine Corps, - Republican
<both of them have seen combat>
My first boyfriend - killed in combat - Independent
My second boyfriend - killed in combat - Republican
My friends (childhood friends) - served in Marine Corps - all Republican <They have all been through combat>
My future father in law - served in the Navy - Democrat
My future mother in law - served in the Navy - Democrat
my future brother-in-law - served in the Navy - Republican
my fiance also had a brother served in the Navy, he died of cancer years ago. I think he was a Democrat too. <They have never been through combat.>
Do we all get along? yes absolutely. Do we argue about politics, not really.
