Trump would be smart to move the SOTU at Washington Redskins stadium, basically like one of his rallies, but maybe a bit more formal with some reserved seating up front for Congresspeople and other bigwigs who wanted to attend. He could hold it in a swing state, in front of what will be mostly a highly partisan crowd. He could sell tickets if he wanted to and have the proceeds go to benefit Veterans job training or something.
He would have the networks televise it live as the State of the Union and then send the printed transcripts to Pelosi and whoever wanted a copy. It would thereby become the Constitutionally mandated State of the Union presentation.
This would be a lot more fun than what they normally do. And politically much more advantageous for Trump and the Republicans.
So, in that scenario, it would be both televised and in print.
To what end? To prove that he can hold an event with even more empty seats than a typical Redskins game?
I say move it to Andrews AFB which totally negates security concerns. The Dems will boycott it and that will hurt them far more than it helps them. The far left will cheer them of course, but the Moderates they need to win elections will be appalled as will be any reasonable person.

Who? Secret Service will clear the way.
Popcorn sales would explode, would they not?
Thomas Jefferson did not present the State of the Union himself. He wrote it and it was read to Congress.
Wasn't until 1913 when Woodward brought back the show.
Also -- there is nothing that says the State of the Union has to be on the 29th.
I think that Trump should have chosen to move the location or method of his 2019 State of the Union, rather than having Pelosi be the one to decide how it should have been done.
She did give him that opening to take control of it.
He gave it back to her ---
State of the Union -- hmm -- it's a mess -- what can he say that he hasn't already said.
Anyways -- they must have a back up plan already. They must have a contingency.
Donald Trump’s Art of the Deal co-author has suggested one reason why the president may soon find a way to end the ongoing partial government shutdown.
Tony Schwartz tweeted Tuesday he thought it could happen because Trump “desperately wants to give the State of the Union to Congress†on Jan. 29.
“It’s always, always about his vanity,†Schwartz added.
President Donald Trump has abandoned his push to deliver the State of the Union address in the House chamber next week and says he will look for another location. "We'll do something in the alternative," he told reporters Wednesday.
Trump and aides have explored alternative venues, including cities around the country. Republican officials in Michigan and North Carolina have invited Trump to give his speech in their states.
Oh, boy, an hour or so of Trump struggling to read a teleprompter, with no pomp and circumstances of the traditional SOTU, no fawning cultists randomly applauding his every inanity, no reason for him to preen and play to the cameras and the crowd. Even his most ardent supporters won't sit through that snooze fest.
Watching our barely literate president attempt to read is both sad and boring as all hell. Add in the habitual sniffling and snorting that curiously occurs whenever he is forced to try to read a teleprompter and Netfilx and Hulu will have record-setting viewership if the networks air it.
Let Lil' Donnie try to read to an empty room. Watching paint dry is more exciting.
I hope the liberals are fine with the same scenario playing out with a Democrat President and a Republican House. That will happen and when it does there better not be any crying.

In the middle of a government shutdown? You bet I'm ok with no Democratic president giving a SOTU then too.
Or did you think this was like Mitch McConnell stealing a SCOTUS seat from a duly elected President and they are only preventing Trump from doing the SOTU because he's a Republican? Nope, that's a GOPer thing.
