Another day, another revelation about sexual abuse and cover ups within the catholic church.

How 'shocking.'

If it were any other organization that was involved in such wide spread sexual abuse, it would be considered a criminal sex ring.

RICO, nuff said.

Quote:
Almost 700 clergymen in Illinois have been accused of child sexual assault, a far greater number than the Catholic Church had previously disclosed, the Midwestern US state's top prosecutor revealed Wednesday.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said the Church's revelations that 185 clergy members were credibly accused of sexual abuse fell short of the number her office has uncovered.

The preliminary results of an investigation that began in August found more than 500 additional priests and clergy members with sexual abuse allegations in the Midwestern state's six dioceses -- a total of at least 685 accused.

As a lapsed Catholic, I have to agree.

When will people boycott the Church?

I am not a lapsed Catholic yet. But I am struggling. I still go to Church every Sunday and holy days, but stopped giving any money to the church at all (I give to charities that help the poor now) and my heart isn't in it. The scandals just never seem to end.

It's odd how we do not insist that something is done about these child abuse rings. We have them in Hollywood and the Catholic Church.

An adult has some crude remarks come their way and we attack (which I am NOT saying shouldn't be addressed) but kids are being abused and we continue to look the other way.

Makes no sense to me.

It reminds me of the campus sexual assault crisis we heard about a few years ago. Lots of hand-wringing about what universities should do.

Well, how about let the police and courts deal with it? Isn't that why they exist?

I'm not sure we have enough courts to deal with it all. We can deal with people that get caught with a little pot but we can't deal with creeps raping children it would seem.

Plenty of room on the docket and in the jail cell.

Throw the pervs to the wolves I say.

I wonder how many local government employees were on the payroll around the country to keep the kiddie train moving along for the abusers.

As a Christian and a member of the church (Not Catholic), this breaks my heart. I was listening to news reporting a few months ago. A lady said she was a victim for years. Now every time she hears the word GOD, she has flashbacks and can't be around the word. I pray that she receives the help she deserves and can have faith in God and mankind again.
