Exactly. Trump and his GOP sycophants will hammer the point that Cohen lied to congress before so his credibility is shoddy at best. And honestly, they've got a point.
However, as you pointed out, if Trump is on tape discussing illegal activity, or if Cohen has financial records (that can and will be verified by Congress or federal investigators), e-mails, text messages, etc that can be verified, Trump or his City-Data supporters can't lie or "fake news" their way out of it. Hard evidence cannot be disproven.

If Cohen was paid to lie or instructed to lie (while being paid) by the president and can prove it--he has a pretty good reason there. Also grounds for impeachment.

What are you talking about? Cohen is testifying before the Senate Panel right now. He will testify tomorrow and Thursday, too. Tomorrow’s testimony will be public, so it’s going to be a busy news day.

Sarah Huckabee-Sanders is already on the attack, doing all she can. In a statement, Sanders said that Michael Cohen cannot be trusted during his testimony because he is a liar.
So a question for Sarah Huckabee-Sanders -- what does it say about President Trump who employed this liar for nearly 20 years as his personal lawyer!?

Cohen knows the inner workings of all of Trump's business better than Trump, and, unlike Trump he records everything and uses computers. Either he has been instructed by DOJ and SDNY to stick to topics already known to the public, or he is going to blow the roof off the White before he gets through Thursday.

Sorry libs. There will be no smoking gun, just more political BS. If there was an actual smoking gun of illegality, Cohen would've turned it over to the US attorney (or even perhaps to a state prosecutor depending on the facts . . . presumably the NY prosecutor).
