CBP says they need physical barriers. That means a wall, steel slat fence, etc. They're the experts. Why not give them what they say they need? Why cave in to the "we hate US citizens" Democrats?

Yep— Only the down payment of a 100 foot wall
Per the Hill
“The $5.7 billion will only fund about 100 miles of new border barriers where none currently exist, mostly in South Texas. Yes, the damaging, painful, disruptive shutdown is only about 100 miles of new barriers. And that will be the most Trump ever gets because no one will want to go through this again.”

They do not Get it ? This will take years and much much more money - it won’t solve any crisis at our borders. I don’t know how else to explain it - you try

Exactly, why don't Pelosi, Schumer and the rest of the Democrat congressmen ask the CBP what they want? After all they are the ones on the front line. We all know the answer to that. It's because they do want good physical barriers where it's needed and it doesn't fit with these traitors in congress' agenda.

This is what the CBP wants.

The entire border security issue is very nuanced.

Simple. Why are you making it complicated.

Shutdowns by the POTUS have NEVER been a part of our governmental system. This has ZERO to do with a wall. See if you can change your head to "our government should function like it has for 250 years" instead of "what is wrong with this and that?".......i

Remember the old adage "Millions for Defense but not ONE CENT for tribute".....that applies here. Look it up for yourself. You don't negotiate with terrorists who ransom your family and your country. Period.

Whatever deals are done should be done as always. Open the government. talk. cajole. organize. Negotiate.

For you to disagree with that means you support this happening as a normal part of our system. Meanwhile the rest of the world forges ahead while our Science and R&D and everything else stands still.

It's not worth it. You don't punch a school kid because you didn't win the lottery. As with the current shutdown, those two things have nothing to do with each other.

This should be easy to understand. Civics didn't teach government shutdowns.

I don't see where the CBP said they didn't need a wall or steel slat fence, etc. Furthermore, the Republican bill has additional funding for resources to speed up the processing of illegal aliens.

The CBP asked for "100% scanned border", NOT "100% walled border". They want to be able to scan (aka patrol) 100% of the border area, that's all. They DID NOT ask for a 100% protected wall.

You know what, that is EXACTLY what the Republicans AND Democrats promised them - the GOP said they will try to deliver a 100% scanned border in five years!! NOT a walled border but a patrolable border.

NOWHERE here is anyone asking for or promising a 2,000 miles wall. NO ONE!! Not even Trump.

.

This debate reminds me of a documentary I watched on one of the toughest Mexican prisons...

On visiting day, they have 1000s of friends and relatives showing up to visit inmates, the warden was interviewed about their procedures for vetting and searching visitors, even he admitted its logistically impossible to search and vet EVERY SINGLE VISITOR, they do their best with what they have to work with and the time frame they have, but do realize contraband (and people) slip thru the cracks.

The border is no different.

Same with negotiating with Trump and the Republicans. If they get what they want from the shut-down, they will keep shutting down the government to get what they want.
Yep, there's a reason why the US doesn't negotiate with terrorists, to which we should add stupid people and any leader that looks like an Umpla Lumpa who has escaped from the Chocolate Factory. (Apologies to Umpa Lumpa's, it is unfair to compare the intelligence of the idiot occupant of the Whitehouse to those of a fictional race of orange men.)
