Do you realize that there are thousands of employers that pay illegals in cash? E-verify can't stop that.
A few well publicized and harsh prison sentences would effectively put an end to that. There will still be some, of course, but many more won't want to take the risk. Everyone has a camera on their phone these days. One phone call could doom anyone who continues to defy the law.
Federally mandate E-verify, put some teeth into it, and enforce it.
But of course, there is no political will on either side to actually do this, even though it would effectively end the problem. I would like to see it play a significant role in the 2020 elections. We the voters should be demanding it.
E-Verify is all fine and dandy, but it only can do so much, as many work under the table and get paid cash.
In a business situation, not hard to catch as long as we want to.

Yes it can. They call them "contractors". We verify their status or you don't get to claim this as an business cost. In the end the result will be the same.

The wall he proposes does not make any sense. The 5.7 billion only buys 100 ft if wall. Two- it’s going to take years to build. Technology like drones and sensors is what dems want and more man power. The samples of walls are all breachable. More coming in through Canada- most illegals are overstays - I can go on - but this wall he wants can’t happen and even the border agents said so. How often do they cover the rapes, child trafficking, drugs, gang members, people with ties to terrorist groups, and other ills of illegals coming into our country?
Answer to both, rarely.
Yet we are constantly bombarded with images of women and kids fighting exhaustion and hobbling their way to America.
We hear about how even if they are not fleeing oppression or war, they are coming for a better life.
Guess what, if they could, over 1 billion poor people who live in lousy countries would cross into our country illegally if they could.
Yet when asked how many is too many, leftists/liberals never have an answer. That is regardless of us accepting plenty of legal immigrants, more so than most other countries combined.

I've answered this before. The answer would seem to be as many as employers like Trump needs. I don't know what that number is.
