Knowing how Trump and the GOP works, they would only include the parts of the bible they like.

In the end, it is just foolish talk as the courts will not allow Christianity to become the official state religion taught in the nation's schools.

My state permitted teaching the Bible as literature and history.

Most times it has not worked out well for the high schools who did it.

Does trump actually think anyone will believe he cares about bible studies?

We know that he knows that we know he doesn't give a damn about Bible literacy. He simply says whatever he thinks will generate or solidify his support. He crafts his response to the intended audience, or suckers as the case may be ...

That guy blows more smoke than a steam engine in a tunnel.

Trump could use some Bible literacy himself, but (setting aside the obvious of this not being a matter for the Federal government), once we do this, it opens up the possibility of Koranic literacy, Confucian literacy and Vedic literacy among other things. I don't think we want to go down a path like that.

Also, biblical interpretation is highly subjective as anyone can see. I can just imagine the snake handlers in eastern Kentucky or the Baptists in central Alabama getting all excited about having a Catholic or Mormon teaching Bible literacy to their children.

This is not a matter for state supported schools. Trump should know this ... but he doesn't think things through ...

It's amazing that Trump wants to tear down the wall that exists between the separation of church and state that our founding father's have set in place, yet wants to build an unpopular wall that we the people voted against when we elected a blue congress. Who do you imagine he's trying to represent with this?

If an elective religious class was introduced in schools and if it focuses on just the history, then it would have to teach all religions, and not just Christianity. Lest it reek of a hidden agenda that is prohibited in our constitution.
Come on people. This is not Trump doing this. It is state representatives introducing a bill.
Trump tweeted "Great!". That is all. A one word tweet doesnt have the power to include parts in legislation or tear down walls. Get a grip.

We have been told that Trump's tweets are official statements. Do you disagree?

More electoral college whining...

The election went as it was supposed to go.

Get over it.

Yes I disagree that posting a tweet that says Great! is either drafting a bill, adding to a bill, supporting a bill or voting on a bill. A tweet is not legislation or policy or upheld by our legal system. Do you disagree?

Trump touts proposed Bible literacy classes in state schools
1--he is appealing to the religious alt-right of his base (Pence's people)
2--he has no understanding of the Constitutions stricture to separate church and state--
And apparently neither do ANY fundamentalists Christians
3--they would only support CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALIST theocracy being taught in schools--
No other faiths and likely nothing like Catholic doctrine or a more liberal Protestant belief system like Quaker (with its anti-war and support of female ministers) or something fairly "liberal" that supports evolution and a non-literal Bible...

I am sure the sects he is appealing to will believe what he says --
He is telling them what they want to hear
