I think the "joke" or perception here plays on the "conservative and authoritarian" world view to see things in black and white.

To the outsider with no political agenda, it sure seems like this guy abused the law. To the same outsider, it definitely seems as if Trump obstructed justices, broke campaign finance laws, hung with crooks and traitors and much more.

Of course - the real truth is that being charged, convicted, etc. has NOTHING to do with whether someone did things and it's not the bar I would ever set for a POTUS.

I don't watch Empire and I won't watch it...anyway. But if I did I would notch a couple points against this dude in the "moral and upright" dept. But I don't hold TV cast to the same standards as a POTUS.

Yeah, lol. He got a free pass.

Now the Feds on the other hand....
There are no federal charges. I don't think there is anything. It seems to be a done deal.

This is unbelievable.

If the Union doesn't issue a formal statement about this today -- this is a nothing story.

They aren't going to let it just slide if there is a valid concern.

I do have to laugh that his lawyers are trying to spin this as him being innocent and that he really was attacked etc.

Yeah, that's some serious spin on the prosecutors saying that they're letting him off the hook for basically his community works and paying a fine in the form of losing his bond.

I think there is serious concern that continued publicity would damage real victims being taken seriously etc. etc.

Jussie is still going to be a joke\punchline for this stunt. We all know he did it, they just don't want to pursue the charges.

Hold my Subway sandwich while I stage this faked attack.

If it's a pretrial diversion then there is a guilty plea, that's part of the deal. In Maryland it's called Probation Before Judgement (PBJ).

Essentially if you don't commit another offense within a specified time frame the charge is expunged.

No one has mentioned this: Smollett is forfeiting his bail money.. That's essentially his fine. Bail isn't kept if charges are dropped. So yeah, he plea bargained for diversion.

Um, that's not how Chicago works.

Keep in mind, city hall tried to help the police cover up the murder of Laquan McDonald.
The people in the key roles are all connected and aren't going to rock the boat.
