The reason why Smollet got off is due to the fact that Smollet is a gay black man. In the court of public opinion, and in the court of the SJW and the Feminist, gay men are also safe especially gay people of color. It is straight uneducated white men, and black men who are a threat to society due to toxic masculinity. Kim Fox, the Prosecutor for Cook County has a hard on for straight black men like R Kelly which she ordered him to be thrown in prison twice. But for Jussie Smollet, Kim Fox gave him the pass and let him go freely. I knew this was going to happen that Cook County will give Smollet not a slap, but a tap on the wrist. If Smollet was a straight black male, the results would have been much more different.
He's also politically connected. I would imagine that played a huge role in Chicago.
It's also wrong to allow a person who perpetuates this sort of fraud to now openly proclaim himself a victim of an attack that every rational, thinking person knows didn't happen.
I get the logic behind the deal, prosecuting this case would have been time-consuming and costly and chances are he wouldn't have suffered any significant punishment even if found guilty. But a gag order should have been included to prevent Smollett and his lawyers from insulting everyone's intelligence.
I can agree with that. He should have been made to issue an apology.
I suspect what happened though is that since they can't prove he did it, they can't demand he apologize. Remember, all the hard evidence was against the brothers, but they never found anything that could prove Smollet himself told them to do it. Even that check he wrote them had text messages attached that made it explicit it was for personal training services needed for an upcoming role. (Not saying that was the truth, but it makes a suitable alibi if you don't have explicit proof the texts were lies).
They don't even have a motive. The "he wanted a raise" and "he was about to be fired" narratives were debunked by the Empire producers.
So here we are. They can't nail him so they forfieted an expensive trial and let him go.
People are very politically divided and had this happened in any other climate it would have been a misdemeanor with him paying a fine or perhaps a couple weekends in jail at most. Taking it so far in the media (and forum discussion) it was bound to end up like this. Yes it sucks but this is the way things are now.
In Chicago you have a Democrat controlled PD, Justice system, Mayor, everything It just shows you what a one party system brings you...The most corrupt city in the country.
