Although I now recognize his face from the news coverage, I’m still not sure who this guy is or why it’s worth belly-aching over his fraudulent assault claims. Can someone please explain?
The state’s attorney’s office just came out and said that because this would have been Smollet’s first offense (aside from lying to the police a few years ago during a DUI stop), he would most likely only be given a sentence of community service, and that he has been good for the community and thus has already performed “community service.”
(He's an actor don't cha know!)

Because it was a lead story for several days on MSM, before the fraud evidence was found.
What is just flabbergasting to me here is the absolute lack of common sense being shown (not you).
Think about it folks, an "exonerated of all charges" person doesn't forfeit his bail money nor does he do community service as a condition of the exoneration.
The kicker is that the plea agreement, which is what happened, is sealed.
He pled guilty to a misdemeanor of some sort (my guess is something about filing a false report) and is on some sort of probation before judgement program.
This. The DA didn't want to mess with it. Could have been less than stellar witnesses or whatever (who knows). He pled out to something (which we will never know). My real objection is that the judge didn't stick a gag order on him.

And because he presented it as a hate crime committed by Trump supporters. As if anyone believes Chicago is "MAGA country," as Jussie claimed his attackers said. That wasn't too bright.
