When I saw the thread title, that was my first thought, so I started scrolling through the thread (from the beginning) to see if anyone had beat me to it.

So, there’s this family member who got cancer in 1967, at the age of 4. Lots of kids around her age were getting this cancer. The newspapers were full of “rising rates” headlines. Most of them died. She did not.

Rinse & repeat another two times until one day in the early 1990s, when two government research scientists introduced themselves with an offer that couldn’t be refused: To use her case in ongoing research, in exchange for free, lifetime, state of the art medical care. Cancer treatment on the house.
Fast forward to 2019; after at least another three cancers diagnosed, treated & survived. She’s a wonderful, energetic & hardworking person with a great outlook on life, who just happens to be a rare survivor of a type of cancer that supposedly; humans would never have.
