Can a city be anymore anti-business? Almost seems like they want businesses to pack up their bags and leave with these expensive new regulations.

At the $1,177 per week average wage for 18 weeks, its about $21,000 that taxpayers and employers will be expected to compensate for the employee because the employee decided to have a baby.

Wow, the average weekly wage in LA is $1,177 so that means 18 weeks of paid parental leave would be about a $21,000 cost that would either be picked up by each business or by the taxpayer

The state also wants to extend their parental leave to a very generous 6 months of paid parental leave.

This sort of thing is common in civilized countries where people aren't afraid to stand up for themselves.

"Researchers have demonstrated that offering paid leave results in higher productivity, greater employee morale, and a net cost savings for companies in the long run. So, while budgetary-minded business owners might initially be wary of the additional expenses added to the balance sheet, the numbers show that paid leave more than covers itself in the end."

Not only that, but virtually every country.

It's just Lesotho, the USA, and Papua New Guinea that are the only hold-outs.

My daughter in CA. just had our 3rd grandchild.

He was born in August and she is still off work. Paid. She visited us (cross country) last week and is headed to Europe next month. In March she will go back to work part-time.

All paid, of course.

The infant is, of course, well bonded and adjusted and has been sleeping through the night since being a month old.

All is good. That's what valuing PEOPLE can do.

Oh, Dad gets time off PAID also. Anyone who doesn't get this is probably jealous. I would be. I certainly didn't get - even in my own business - that kind of time off.

Anybody know if they have limits on the size of business? A large company could adsorb this, not so much if you are small business. It's not just the cost, losing an employee is a pretty big deal if you only have a handful of them especially if that employee has specific task.

This is all nice and everything but benefits cost money.

We just got paid sick in NJ and many in the company I work for get sick a lot on Fridays.

Id rather see universal health insurance since that involves more random circumstances and more unknowns.

So the tax payer and consumer should just lay down and take it.
The usual obey and be silent response to any opposition liberals encounter.
