No vote to go into Syria, but a vote to leave?

Yes, makes much sense, did not realize there were so many neocon warhawks.

And the wall he says we need to finish. That's not a wall; it's a row of empty tin soup cans sitting in line, rusting in the sand along the border.

Political expediency/flip-flopping. Prolly the number one trait in a human-being I despise the most.
I certainly wouldn't characterize Trump as a wimp, not after all the horrors he and his family have faced down. I never really expected the wall, either. I just wanted the bombing to stop.

What I do honor him for, and always will, is that he has pulled back the curtain and revealed the true state of affairs in the country and who controls it. He couldn't have been more clear. And from what I understand, in case we didn't get the message the first time, SOTU will reinforce it.

We are now hearing about multiples of 10,000s ISIS fighters in the region. Votel did not speak out until he was about to retire. Mattis, of course, did not even get the opportunity to resign but instead was fired. Whatever one thinks about overall US policy ... this is not the way things should roll:

Quote:
The top US commander in the war against ISIS aligned himself Sunday with the US intelligence community assessment that there are "tens of thousands" of ISIS fighters spread across Syria and Iraq.

"They are dispersed and disaggregated, but there is leadership, there are fighters there, there are facilitators there," Gen. Joseph Votel told reporters traveling with him to the Middle East for his farewell tour.

Votel's comments underscore the testimony from Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats before Congress, an assessment President Donald Trump has publicly disagreed with.

The statements, however, come as US backed fighters are in heavy combat in the last area of Syria where ISIS still controls territory.
As for Trump's plan to redirect troops to Iraq? That's now fallen apart after the Face the Nation interview that incensed multiple Iraqi political parties. His flying into the al-Asad air force base last December without meeting with any Iraqi officials did not help. Some now want to kick all US troops out of the country.

Quote:
Top Donald Trump administration officials indicated today that US bases in Iraq would have little role in monitoring Iran-backed proxies after the president vowed in a TV interview that American troops would stay in the country to “watch” Iranian forces.

Iraqi political figures roundly criticized Trump in the wake of a Sunday interview on CBS’ "Face the Nation." President Barham Salih, a longstanding American ally, called the potential action “unacceptable” and insisted the United States hadn’t been granted permission by Baghdad to snoop on Iran.

If the Democrats continue to fight a withdrawal, they are going to force me to vote for Trump.

Hey, the thread title is that the pushback started with the Senate Republicans. Maybe some can retain confidence in a president who doesn't think he knows more than about everyone else. Me ... I probably would not have even noticed a 2,000 troop removal announcement had it not been for all the surrounding chaos and then the ISIS announcement. Like I said earlier, it's all about having a sane process - with my personally being less invested in what that is.

Meh, don't hold your breath for anything even resembling impeachment to get past McConnell.
