He didn't try to make a joke on the show - I am watching it right now and it was just a comment he made in passing (as far as I heard it and within the context).
I guess I would have to play it back again but it seemed like he just used Popeye's as a random example - as random as McDonalds or Burger King.
Kind of hard to explain. Just how I heard it I didn't even think anything of it.
It's really just SJWs eating their own, so it's good comedy. We'll see how Maher addresses this week or next Friday on his show.
Occasionally (like...REALLY occasionally) Maher is right on a stance. When he's rips into Antfifa as the punks that they are, he's clearly right.
But that's rare.

In this case I really do just believe it's yet another example of the extreme left reading WAAAAY into something that normal, healthy-thinking people wouldn't in a million years conceive as "racist".

Yea, but they'll give him a pass.... If he were a Republican, they'd be picketing in front of HBO's headquarters, and every Hollywood liberal would be calling for him to be fired... If a conservative had said some of the carp that comes out of his mouth, Maher himself, the hypocrite that he is, would be butt hurt over it too... To hell with him and Notham...
