A very good point. I assume (I have not read the actual Act) that President Trump can veto such a resolution, and that, as you say, the Senate and House may not have the votes to override it.

Yet, since since Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is against Mr. Trump making a national declaration (in part due to it establishing precedent; see my link earlier about the types of national emergencies that have been issued) one must wonder if Mr. McConnell, if push comes to shove, will make sure that enough votes are rounded up to override the veto.

Say what you will about Mitch McConnell, he is a clever man, well versed in politics, and willing to take risks (see Garland) if the rewards are high enough. Since he appears to be against Mr. Trump using this power, one has to think that he is three steps ahead of everyone (12 steps, for Mr. Trump) regarding the usage of this power.

If McConell wants the votes, he will absolutely have them in place. Trump is pushing the Republicans in ways that are forcing them to side against him. I swear you could not have found a better way to destroy the GOP then what Trump is doing.

Has anyone noticed how all the "militias" who were extremely gung-ho about the evils of the federal government enforcing grazing rights are so very, very quiet about farmers being forced to give up land they actually own?

He lied?

His wall? Sorry no, it's the wall bill that was passed back in 2006 by congress that didn't get done correctly.

It's an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5-

As you may or may not have noticed, Mexico has not actually decided to make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion, which is why the fool you back shut down the government for 35 days in an attempt to take it it from you and me instead.

Did you read that cite?

Fair point.

But let's be honest even Trump's most ardent fanboys know Trump would be using the power in order to defy congress (ie the will of the people) And if he did get away with it, Dems could do the same thing to bring in healthcare for all, taxes on people wearing MAGA hats...
In fact all bets would be off, the POTUS would be a emperor...

The Republican party destroyed themselves when they turned a blind eye and let Trump have free reign for two years because it suited their short-term goals. Now they have to own the monster they created.

The GOP won't get the stink of Trump off of them for decades. If the party lasts that long.

Congress denies Trump’s order to pull troops out of Afghanistan ($51 billion a year wasted) and deny Trump’s wishes to build a barrier on the southern border ($5 billion). The morons in congress care more about a foreign country than our own. How do you people pledge loyalty to either party? These politicians from both sides still have accepted that they were resoundingly rejected by the voters, they want to continue the failed policies of the past and hope things go back to how they were when they were in charge before Trump.
