I didn't watch it because I'm liberal and not interested in Trump.
But after reading these comments, just wanted to clarify: Democrats do not want socialism, we want a better safety net. It's a mixture of capitalism with some social policy mixed in. People helping other people is the American way. Unity.
Too bad, socialism gives people more freedom.
Anyways the wearing white was a gimmick for the masses to eat up. Now democrats can fawn over Nancy’s white suite and republicans can mock them, meanwhile the bankers are signing checks, the healthcare industry is watering down Medicare for all, and the MIC is chugging along.
I only watched the first few minutes, for I enjoy seeing the President being announced by the House gatekeeper, and of the President walking down the aisle being greeted by those that arrived in the House chamber hours early to have a seat on the aisle.
However, a curious thing happened. After Mr. Trump handed his speech to Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Pence, he immediately started his speech.
Always, after handing over the speech, the Speaker then rises and formally introduces the President to the assembly, resulting in another bout of sustained applause.
I suppose that Mr. Trump simply forgot. I would think that he regrets, now, of not having Nancy Pelosi formally introduce him. I imagine that Ms. Pelosi was pleased she did not have to do so.
In typical fashion Trump spent more time talking about what him and his supporters THINK he’s done. And to choose building his wall his good and if you don’t your choosing evil. So once again more fear mongering and false bragging.
I have NO clue why Dems don't support further strengthening our border when sex traffickers smuggle girls, minors, into the US between the CBP border entry points to sell them into sex slavery. Why are Dems pro-sex slavery?
They are not pro sex slavery, they are just so blinded by race and ethnicity that they don't see anything else. The only thing that matters is that most of the people crossing the southern border are non white and/or non Anglo. Any other consideration is just a distraction from that singular concern.
The poll isn't accurate. It's 72% of viewers not 72% of the public. Many, many Democrats and Independents didn't watch because they don't like Trump and are turned off. It's a heavily skewed poll that oversampled Trump supporters.
In a couple of days this mediocre SOTU will be forgotten and Trump's approval rating will hover around 40% like it always does.
Actually, most of those polled by CBS were Dems and Independents (58%, compared to 42% Republican). Seems at least 57% of the Dems and Independents liked what they heard, too (do the math), in order to score that 75% approval in the CBS poll .
Watching it now. Trump farts and Republicans stand up and clap. Doesn't really matter what he says. Bragging, lies and mindless rhetoric is all he's got. He speaks at the level of a child.

Nah, I think he’s upset. CNN said 76% of Americans loved that speech and 72% agree with his immigration stance.
Since it was a 2 hour monologue given by Trump, it's very likely most SOTU watchers were Trump supporters and they would approve of anything he said. But even if Trump haters approved of the speech, it's likely because POTUS has set such a low standard for appropriate behavior that when he avoids profanity, insults, and mudslinging, we actually view it as an amazing accomplishment from the guy because his normal behavior is so out of bounds of typical behavior for a president (or a decent human being, for that matter.)
What I want to know is how John Pence is able to paste that constant silly half smile on his face. No matter what is going on, his facial expression never changes. How does he do that? Makeup? Botox?
Do they get married en masse in a single grouping? No. That's the difference. The Dems looked like a Klan rally, way too soon after VA Governor Northam's KKK yearbook photo fiasco. Unforced error. They should have thought that through.

I thought the speech was very good overall, and I thought Trump looked and sounded as good as he has since taking office. (And I am not a fan of Trump.) I think his approval rating will now take a sharp upturn, although that will probably be temporary. I also think he made a good case for "the wall".
However, I think that he was saying that he and his team should be pardoned because of how good the economy is, and I definitely do not agree with that. In my view, it would be like a parent saying that he should be excused for abusing his children because he provides them with an affluent home.
