Christian teaching is that women are 2nd Class citizens, slavery is good, democracy and republicanism are bad and a host of other immoral teachings.

None of those things have anything to do with Atheism.
They are, however, part of the Liberal agenda.

So, you want to ban birthdays, ban Christmas, ban all holidays, and imprison those who violate those bans?
Because that's what the Puritan Pilgrims were all about.
But, then, your view of history is all wrong.
Plymouth was not the first colony.
Roanoke was the first colony. It failed. Then a second attempt was made. It failed, too. So, a third attempt was made. It failed spectacularly.
Finally, a colony was established at Jamestown. It was successful.
The Pilgrims didn't arrive until 13 years later, and even then, they lived for 2 years on the ship after that.
You have to remember that the Little Ice Age is just getting ready to peak, so it's damn cold in New England. The growing season was only about 8 weeks, and in a few decades, that had shortened to just 6 weeks. The last killing frost came the last week of June, then you had July and the first two weeks of August to clear your fields, plow -- you can't plow when the ground is frozen -- plant, grow and harvest your crops.
So, if you're attempting to claim that the US was founded on religious freedom, that claim fails miserably, because the first three colonies weren't, and neither was the first successful colony at Jamestown.
And, to claim the Pilgrims founded Plymouth on the basis of religious freedom is absurd when you consider the fact that the Pilgrims were just spoiled brats who were mad that they couldn't impose their differently twisted religious views on others.
The reason the Puritans were persecuted is because nobody want to live under the terror they imposed.
The religious views of the Puritans were so bizarre, off-base, bizarre and differently twisted that even Jesus would have banned them.
Given the choice, you would choose Shari'a Law over the Puritan's laws.
