The simplest solution is to allow the imam or chaplain or voo doo priest prayer time with the condemned up and until the inmate is taken into the chamber. Then they watch from the gallery as every other invited guest. Like most other states do. If you allow one religion and not others then you open yourself up for something like this.

He was in prison for 20 years. Religious conversions happen.

I’m speaking percentage wise.

How many individuals who were practicing Muslims at the time of the crime are on death row?

Most likely this guy converted to Islam in prison.

Allah akbar!!

There's no way a state could keep a representative of each denomination including all the little new wave religions on staff just in case someone of that specific denomination needed their service.

The chaplains may be ordained in a specific church/temple/whatever, but are trained to perform services for most major denominations. When I was in the military, the one Chaplin I remember most was a Rabbi. Very wise and kind man with a great sense of humor, he handled Christian services like a pro.

One way to circumvent using these paltry excuses to try to avoid justice would be to contract for the services of the local imam or witch doctor or whatever, so technically they would be an employee of the state, but only paid when needed to prevent these specious appeals and let justice be done.

These contracted religious leaders could also provide other services as needed.

There's no reason for cases like this to be dragged out for 20 years.
I agree that 20 years is far too long to drag out an execution, but he was informed that the Imam would not be allowed 3-4 days before he filed in court to be allowed to have his religious leader with him. The court could have ruled that he be allowed his Imam, then executed him.

The way this was handled did not solve the problem of one religion gets their minister, but others don't.

Did you feel bad for his victim? He got exactly what he deserved.

Damn, those born again Christians really know how to raise them.

Without getting into a futile discussion about the death penalty, if a Christian murderer is allowed a visit from the Christian chaplain before their execution, why is a converted Islamic murderer not allowed a visit from an imam before execution? Why is a Christian murderer any more worthy than a Muslim murderer?

How many Muslims vs. Christians are in this country, does it make sense there would be more Christians that kill than Muslims. Please stop supporting these scumbags.
