Simple question. This looks bad to me if you’re so anti-Cuba. Cuba is probably less communist than Vietnam is and Cuba certainly poses no threat to the United States.
And before someone mentions that Cuba harbors anti-American terrorists, remember that we harbor anti Cuban terrorists. And before you say that Cuba won’t turn over fugitives to American law enforcement for prosecution, remember that we won’t turn over Cuban criminals to Cuba for prosecution.
Oh yeah, before you bring up the expropriation of property by the Cuban government, the Vietnamese have also expropriated properties from half a million Vietnamese Americans and several properties from corporations like the 31,000 acres belonging to Michelin. In fact, we had to compensate the French for damage done to that plantation.

So, what gives? What’s the difference?
Aussie has already provided the main reason.
The Cubans also apparently used some type of sound to damage the hearing of Americans working there...in general, there is no reason to trust the Cubans to host a US President and there is ample reason to trust the Vietnamese.
I supported Obama's initiative to begin a process of normalizing relations with Cuba....at the same time, it's a 2 way street. I hope Trump does something to improve relations with Cuba over the next 6 years of his Presidency.
Vietnam is becoming a major player to counter Chinese aggression and unlawful expansion into the South China Sea.Before anyone says hey they call it the South China Sea means its Chinese wrong the Ohio River is 90% Kentucky's they rule nautical law so boater's beware of the river Nazi's this summer....lol...
That’s still not a reason to avoid normalization with Cuba.

Cuba would host an American President in a heartbeat and we both know it.
And of course there’s a reason to visit Cuba. We’re supposedly housing dangerous terrorists on their soil and maintaining a base in their country. It’s bad manners to do that and not have good relations with the host country.
We bend over backwards to have good relations with every other host nation to our troops. Why single out the Cubans for poor treatment?
Moreover, why obsess over China wanting their rightful place as the hegemon of Asia? They don’t interfere in our efforts to maintain hegemony over our hemisphere.

The United States has perpetrated American aggression all over this hemisphere with deadly results. Who are we to try and keep the Chinese from exerting power moves in Asia? The other Asian nations can all band together and keep China at bay.
President Bone Spurs is throwing red meat to his base with his position on Cuba...not to mention the Cuban/Cuban-American vote could be a key for the GOP in Florida in 2020.
But I agree it is ridiculous. If Americans are free to travel without restrictions to Vietnam, China, Russia, etc. Why the hell not Cuba....

Lots of Canadians travel to Cuba every year.
I guy I work with and his church just returned from traveling to Cuba and rebuilding a church. All the restrictions were put on them by the Cuban government. They were not allowed to bring in any of their tools. equipment or materials. Everything had to be done almost like it was 1800.
The Cuban Govt is not ready to play ball with the rest of the world yet. They still want to remain a 3rd world country driving 60 year old cars.
Maybe someday that will change.
